Job Details Job ID: 5616253 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: Mar 30, 2026 4:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Position Summary The goal of the High School Mentor is to support young musicians in El Sistema Somerville and serve as positive role models in and outside of the music classroom. Mentors will assist Teaching Artists in musical instruction while fostering a collaborative environment and helping to build a strong sense of personal artistry and community among students. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Assisting Teaching Artists during sectionals, rehearsals, and lessons by providing peer support to younger students with instrument practice and musicianship Modeling and reinforcing positive behavior and teamwork Helping with classroom and stage setup Assisting in monitoring downtime and transitions Maintaining adequate knowledge of technique, fundamentals, and musicianship skills Qualifications & Requirements Current SPS High School student with 4+ years of instrument experience Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills El Sistema Somerville graduates preferred Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred Reporting Relationships Director of El Sistema Terms of Employment Work Status: Part Time Schedule: School Year, Monday - Friday (Monday thru Friday 3:00pm - 5:45pm) Location: EAST SOMERVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL Compensation: $18.28 per work hour FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Benefits: Not benefits eligible (part-time, grant-funded position) Union Status: Non Union Position Pre-Employment Requirements MA Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) Clearance Fingerprints Somerville Public Schools does not discriminate in its programs, facilities, or employment or educational opportunities on the basis of race, color, age, religion, disability, pregnancy, home status, marital/civil union status, sex/gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, citizenship status, place of birth, national origin, ancestry, cultural identity, genetics or military status, and does not tolerate any form of retaliation or bias-based intimidation, threat or harassment that demeans individuals’ dignity or interferes with their ability to learn or work.
