Summary

Supervisory Registered Respiratory Therapist serves as a member of the Medical Service at VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System. The Respiratory Care subsection is responsible for providing the full range of clinical procedures related to Respiratory Services. Supervisory RRTs manage and supervise the respiratory department which includes assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff, resolving problems, evaluating new procedures, products and equipment.

Duties of the position include, but are not limited to:

• Assists in establishing a completely integrated patient care program.
• Organizes work, delegate tasks, evaluate performance, manage fiscal matters, and meet multiple deadlines.
• Supervises and manages subordinate employees.
• Skilled in interpersonal relationships including conflict resolution.
• Establishes and monitors standards and priorities for production and patient care.
• Skilled in recommending improvements to operations based on evaluation of data.
• Manages, directs, or assists in managing or directing, one or more programs to deliver health care services to Veterans. Assumes a high level of supervision of a large, complex section and, as necessary, provides supervision to subordinate supervisors.
• Directly contributes to the administrative management of VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System (VASNHCS) and is the principal advisor for planning, organizing, developing, managing, and evaluating the program under their supervision.
• Applies specialized principles and practices of health care management in leading programs.

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements :

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Education. Individuals must have successfully completed a respiratory care program accredited by the CoARC or its successor.
• Licensure. Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a full, current and unrestricted license from a state to practice as an RRT.
• Credential. Persons appointed or reassigned to RRT positions in the GS-0601 series must possess and maintain for the duration of employment a valid, current, unrestricted credential of RRT.

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Grade Determinations : Have one year of creditable experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level demonstrating the clinical competencies described at that level. It is highly desirable that the candidate possess certification in one or more functional specialties.

Preferred Experience: Hold an active license and RRT credential.
