Physician Assistant (PA) - Orthopedics

Location: Mammoth Lakes, CA (Potential coverage at the Bishop Clinic as needed)

Schedule:

• 36 hours/week - Day shifts

• Full-time on-call coverage / On-call coverage includes nights and weekends

• Rotating holiday and high-volume event date coverage

• First-assist on-call shifts for the Operating Room

Compensation:

• Base rate: $87/hour

• Weekly travel stipend (if applicable): $1,575

• Estimated Weekly Gross: $5,229

• $1,000 round-trip travel allowance

• $130.50/hour for daily overtime after 8 hours/day and weekly overtime after 40 regular hours/week.

Type of Contract: Travel Contract / 43 weeks

Job Description:
The Orthopedic Physician Assistant (PA) will support the medical and surgical care of orthopedic patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The PA will participate in all aspects of patient care and report directly to the Attending Physician for patient evaluations and other assigned duties. The role also includes first-assist Operating Room coverage, with on-call responsibilities distributed among Physician Assistants across surgical specialties, including rotating holiday and high-volume event date coverage.

Requirements:

• State of California Physician Assistant License required

• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required

• DEA license required

• Three years of experience in inpatient, outpatient, and surgical care required

Responsibilities:

• Provide routine medical management of inpatient care, including ordering diagnostic tests, labs, x-rays, medications within the scope of the PA license, nutrition, and adjunctive care

• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and communicate treatment plans with orthopedic physicians, nursing staff, and families

• Manage patient discharge, including disposition, follow-up planning, adjunctive therapy management, and education

• Assess emergency conditions and, in conjunction with the attending physician, implement appropriate management and surgical care

• Perform bedside History and Physical examinations when needed

• Initiate appropriate emergency care in inpatient and outpatient settings

• Function as a first or second assistant in the Operating Room

• Perform surgical exposure and surgical dissections

• Perform layer closure of wounds

• Apply dressings and immobilization devices
