Job Description Summary for Changed position now GU Medical Oncology: Advanced Practice Provider to work ambulatory clinic Monday-Friday (no call, no weekends) from 8am-5pm. Will support patients on the GU Medical Oncology teams. Position based at the UVA Health Emily Couric Comprehensive Cancer Center and Pantops Cancer Center locations and will support 2 Medical Oncologists. Prior oncology, urology, chemotherapy, or advanced practice experience beneficial. OCN or AOCNP certification a plus. Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.

Participates within the organizational systems of the service, unit and institution, initiatives that promote and contribute to the development of the APP, RN and other colleagues.

Evaluates/augments quality initiatives to benefit quality of care and patient safety. Investigates, utilizes, communicates and participates in the development and utilization of scientific knowledge via research and Evidence-Based Practice.

Self-motivated learning, engagement in process improvement and quality improvement initiatives.

Evaluates individual clinical practice, role performance via regulatory, state and institutional guidelines.

Provide care for medical oncology patients with genitourinary (bladder, prostate, renal, etc) cancers as well as head and neck cancers

Perform routine follow up visits for patients on chemotherapy, immunotherapy and hormonal therapies

Evaluate patients requiring acute symptom management

Manage patients in longitudinal survivorship post-treatment

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including research coordinators, social workers, dieticians, surgeons, radiologists and pathologists

Perform and document history & physical exams, and analyze clinical data to form well-developed differential diagnoses.

Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, following patient responses, and adjusting the plan of care based on ongoing objective and subjective data collection.

Identify appropriate sub-specialist consultation.

Effectively communicate plans of care with patients, families, nurses, and other stakeholders; and navigate complex psychosocial dynamics.

Collaboration within a multidisciplinary team of physicians, APPs, nurses, therapists, and physician and advanced practice leadership.

The ability to professionally lead other members of the care team in a dynamic environment.

Participate within organizational initiatives that promote the development of colleagues (APP, RN, others).

Evaluate/augment quality initiatives and participate in evidence-based practice to improve outcomes and safety.

Minimum requirements education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree. Experience: Department and unit specific. Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

Physical demands job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $116,123.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
