Membership Specialist

Summary The Membership Specialist performs all aspects of Membership, including front and back‑office operations, screening and applying members for benefits, general scheduling, enrollment and registration, maintaining member data in the electronic health record, and managing the front lobby and immediate property. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct front and back‑office functions related to appointments, insurance verifications, collection of fees, and member training on kiosk use. Provide customer service in the lobby and front office, ensuring members receive a positive experience while waiting. Maintain medical records and process requests for records. Update member benefits information, verify eligibility, and assist with screening or application of state‑funded benefits. Open and prepare member records for clinical services, gathering pertinent information, releases, and identifications. Route callers to appropriate contacts, document messages according to protocol, and provide general information on community resources. Assist in quality management by disseminating information aimed at collecting satisfaction data or resolving issues. Collaborate with all staff levels to ensure effective Membership operations. Perform other duties as assigned, supporting the position’s growth and general responsibilities. Additional Essential Duties Conduct integrated healthcare assessments and annual updates. Assist members in following prescribed medical interventions and diagnostic testing. Assess and address barriers to health. Offer guidance and education related to members’ individual needs. Connect members to resources within CODAC and the community to address identified health concerns. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent with one year of progressive responsibility, experience with electronic data systems, or related certification or associate’s degree (membership specialist). For membership technician: Bachelor’s or Master’s in a healthcare or related field with relevant experience, or associate’s degree with required experience, certified peer support specialist with two years experience, or Arizona licensed RN or PA (non‑practitioner). Other Requirements Bilingual skills a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Certifications CPR and First Aid obtained within 60 days of hire. Fingerprint Clearance obtained within 90 days of hire. Skills Proficient with computer software for research, tracking, data entry, and reporting (e.g., AHCCCS Online, Excel, Word, Access). Strong knowledge of administrative procedures, office equipment, and customer service principles. Understanding of electronic health systems, record standards, and HIPAA/privacy regulations. Knowledge of AHCCCS, insurance benefits, and eligibility enrollment. Professional appearance, demeanor, and relationship‑building skills with diverse populations. Effective communication skills across diverse backgrounds. Analytical problem‑solving for complex Membership operations. Excellent multitasking, prioritization, and time‑management in a fast‑paced environment.
