Classification Speech Pathologist About Cal State East Bay Cal State East Bay\'s beautiful main campus is located in the Hayward hills with panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay shoreline. About The Position The Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences is an academic unit within the College of Health offering BS and MS degrees supported by clinical training through the Rees Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic, which provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals with communication disorders in surrounding Bay Area communities. This position serves as a lead clinical professional responsible for coordinating the delivery of speech-language pathology services and clinical training activities. The position has two primary components: clinical supervision and coordination of clinic operations. The incumbent oversees all clinic sessions, including evaluations and therapy delivered in-person and via telehealth, ensuring quality patient care and alignment with training objectives. The position coordinates clinic operations, including scheduling, staffing, and service delivery across on-campus and off-campus settings, including satellite clinics, contracted sites (e.g., Twin Oaks Montessori School), and internships. Responsibilities include working closely with the appropriate administrator and department chair in the supervision of assigned staff and coordination of intermittent clinical supervisors, including recruitment, onboarding, and approval of clinical service hours, in support of clinic operations and student training. The incumbent leads efforts to expand clinical services, including implementation of grant-funded initiatives (e.g., Scottish Rite), development of service delivery models to increase access for pediatric clients, and establishment of community partnerships. The position supports integration of clinical services with the academic program through collaboration with faculty, demonstration of professional practices, and contribution to student supervision. This position also participates in departmental activities, including meetings, committees, graduate admissions, scholarship review, accreditation processes, comprehensive examinations, and faculty searches, supporting alignment between clinical services and program goals. Responsibilities Clinic Administration, Scheduling & Tracking Student Clinicians, and Scheduling Clients Clinic planning each term to ensure adequate oversight & consideration and development of specialty clinics. Maintaining clinic records for department statistics, accreditation, grant writing and other purposes. Communication with clients, caregivers, and student clinicians. Checking registrations for SLHS 694, 695 & 696. Collecting Clinician Background Sheets. Tracking clock hour needs, past experience and prior supervisors. Assigning clinicians to individual clients, offsites or specialty clinics (e.g., Aphasia Treatment Program, Conversation Club, AAC group, etc.), matching clinicians to Clinic Note, EMR system utilized by the Rees Clinic. Reviewing CALIPSO evaluations, approving hours, etc. Satellite Clinic (TOM), Offsite Clinic Assignments & Internships Communication with offsite administrators & SLP supervisors to confirm placements. Participation in selection process as required by sites, including dissemination of resumes and arrangement for interviews. Send out detailed written expectations and responsibilities to supervisors and graduate clinicians. Ensure MOU’s/affiliations are current or request new ones from CSUEB Procurement Office or School of Education as appropriate. Update Twin Oaks Montessori contract in fall for the academic year, in June for Extended School Year, and as needed to ensure Rees Clinic is meeting their elementary through high school students’ needs. Serve as administrator for CALIPSO, a web-based management system. Diagnostic Clinic Responsibilities Review all applications for appropriateness, securing background information and referral to Aphasia Treatment Program or other service providers as appropriate. Communication with clients/caregivers regarding diagnostic process. Schedule evaluation appointments, assign graduate clinicians and supervisors. Release PHI to assigned graduate clinicians and supervisors. Set up Diagnostic Google file for holding application, clinical forms, protocols, and signed finalized diagnostic letters and written reports. Once completed, contents of this folder are moved to Clinic Note. Manage/oversee resource room that houses assessment measures, including ordering, as well as bundling purchases of new measures and replenishing protocols in department grant proposals. Serve as administrator of Pearson, Q-Global, an internet platform, in which the Rees Clinic holds a small inventory of tests for telehealth. Routinely update Clinic Manual and clinical aspects of SLHS website. Custodian of Client Records Administrator for Clinic Note, the EMR system utilized by the Rees Clinic. Management of flow of client records from Rees Shared drive (application,clinic forms, background information, etc.) to Google Drive Diagnostic folder and once evaluation completed to Clinic Note. Establish clinic policies and ensure adherence to student accommodation from Accessibility Services. Clinical Supervision & Teaching SLHS 696 - Oversee diagnostic evaluations of individual clients & College Link freshmen, providing oral/written feedback, along with completion of CALIPSO evaluations. Observe minimum of 25% of each session and adhere to 100% line of sight supervision for telehealth sessions. Demonstrate delivery of professional clinical services for the benefit of students in training. Lead SLHS 696 Orientation Meeting in Fall and Spring followed by diagnostic rounds during those same semesters. Provide diagnostic clinicians with sample reports. Review student clinician written documentation, providing a model for professional writing. Oversee all offsite and internship placements, including midterm Zoom meetings and review of CALIPSO evaluations. Internship planning and scheduling, including fall & spring cohort meetings with follow-up coordination with academic advisors. Simucase - Provide simulation contact hours in lower incidence disorder areas across the lifespan. Responsible for choosing cases, scheduling, assigning, preparing prebriefs, facilitating debrief discussions, and approving hours as the Simucase supervisor. Provide lead work direction in the absence of supervisors. Spot supervise potentially at-risk clinicians and meet with them and/or their supervisors. Develop and monitor support plans for at risk clinicians. Compile and post grades for SLHS 694, 695, 696 & 698 each term, including tracking of incompletes for Change of Grade form submission. Update syllabi for SLHS 694, 695, 696 & 698 each term. Departmental Expectations/Responsibilities & Other Duties As Assigned Scottish Rite Grant - Oversee implementation of grant-funded initiatives to expand access to clinical services for pediatric clients at the Rees Clinic, including development of service delivery models and cultivation of community partnerships to increase service availability. Provide lead work direction to administrative support staff to support these efforts. Participate in all department meetings and sub-committee meetings/assignments. Accreditation-Keep clinic statistics, documentation, etc. utilized in submitting accreditation reports and preparation for site visits. Monitor accreditation standards to update clinical processes and operation. Coordination of comprehensive exams and review scholarship applications. Participate in the graduate admissions process, including review and evaluation of applications, assessment of applicants’ readiness for clinical training, participation in interviews and selection processes, and collaboration with faculty to support admissions decisions aligned with program capacity and clinical training resources. Respond in a timely manner to requests/tasks from Chair or Program Director. Provide input in the evaluation of administrative support staff to the appropriate administrator and Chair. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, and practices of clinical speech pathology work; speech anatomy and the basic pathologies involved in diseases or injuries resulting in physical and language disorders; current literature in the speech pathology field; and applicable state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the practice of speech pathology and patient confidentiality. Abilities: Ability to effectively perform patient speech pathology evaluations and therapeutic interventions and demonstrate techniques to students; initiate and develop quality standards and protocols to ensure accuracy in tests; effectively use equipment for evaluations and therapeutic interventions including, but not limited to, audiometers, sonographs, language masters, delayed auditory feedback, and biofeedback equipment; communicate effectively with patients, parents, faculty, and staff and write professional-level reports and correspondence; plan, organize, and coordinate clinical operational activities; supervise students; maintain patient confidentiality as required by applicable state and federal laws and regulations; maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, and parents; and be sensitive to and communicate effectively with diverse patients, parents, and students. Education and Experience: Master’s degree or equivalent in speech-language pathology or audiology from an educational institution approved by the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board and equivalent to two years of clinical speech pathology work or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. License and Certifications: Possess and maintain a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Pathology awarded by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a valid license from the California Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board. Preferred Skills and Knowledge Knowledge of ethical, legal, and best practices as applied to the administration of a speech-language pathology clinic. Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills supporting effective interprofessional practice (IPP) with clients, caregivers, students, faculty, and clinical supervisors. Experience or demonstrated ability in clinical program coordination, including supervision, scheduling, or multi-site service delivery. Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel). Experience using clinical education management systems (e.g., CALIPSO) for tracking student clinical hours and evaluations. Experience administering electronic medical record systems and managing clinical documentation workflows, including PHI compliance. Experience coordinating offsite clinical placements or partnerships with external agencies, including affiliation agreements. Experience supporting accreditation processes, including clinical data tracking and reporting. Experience implementing grant-funded initiatives or expanding clinical service delivery programs. Experience supporting at-risk student clinicians, including development of remediation or support plans. Experience with simulation-based clinical training platforms (e.g., Simucase). Experience developing or implementing clinic policies, procedures, or operational manuals. Experience managing clinical assessment resources and related digital testing platforms.
