About The Department The Biological Sciences Division (BSD) is the largest unit of the University. Established in 1930, the BSD is comprised of faculty from the clinical and basic sciences and delivers undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate education in the biological sciences. With approximately 135 faculty in the basic science departments, over 800 faculty in clinical departments, and 2400 staff members, the BSD includes the Pritzker School of Medicine and numerous research centers. The Division is located on the University's main campus in Hyde Park, 20 minutes south of downtown Chicago. In the Department of Neurobiology, we study how the nervous system works, including its cellular and system-level functions, drug effects, and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms. Our faculty conduct cutting‑edge research and recruit significant grants from government agencies and foundations, while also cultivating young scientists for future discovery. Job Summary This role provides technical support activities related to scientific research projects, ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, assists in drafting research presentations, and performs various administrative tasks supporting experimental work. Responsibilities Behavioral training of mice in virtual reality. Targeted viral injections. Window implants. In‑vivo imaging. Maintenance of equipment and experimental rooms. Training, collaborating with, and assisting new laboratory personnel. Assistance with surgery and minor procedures. Handling various administrative tasks. Providing technical and administrative support for research projects. Collecting, entering, and assisting in the analysis of data; preparing reports, manuscripts, and related documents. Performing other related duties as required. Qualifications Minimum education: vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field; a four‑year degree is not typically required. Minimum experience: 2–5 years of work experience in a related discipline. Knowledge and skills developed through this experience, including compliance with regulations. Preferred Qualifications Education: BS in Neuroscience or a closely related field. Experience: Work in a neuroscience or related research laboratory; must have experience handling and training mice. Competencies: Capacity to work independently in an organized, detailed manner while maintaining a collaborative team environment. Ability to think abstractly and concretely.
