Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly techniques, ensuring patient comfort and safety
• Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established protocols
• Explain specimen collection procedures clearly and courteously to patients of all ages and backgrounds
• Collect and store specimens such as blood, urine, or fecal samples following proper procedures and protocols
• Match requisition forms with specimen tubes, ensuring accuracy in labeling and documentation
• Package specimens appropriately for transport, maintaining specimen integrity at all times
• Follow OSHA and DEP regulations, including proper use of PPE and safety procedures
• Maintain laboratory equipment, update patient information, and perform routine cleaning and decontamination
• Attend annual training sessions and participate in department meetings to stay current with best practices
• Assist with answering inquiries related to laboratory results and specimen status
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support laboratory operations

Required Skills

• Experience performing blood draws and specimen collection in a clinical setting
• Knowledge of laboratory specimen handling, labeling, and processing
• Ability to accurately record data and operate laboratory equipment such as centrifuges
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent communication skills for explaining procedures and interacting with patients

Additional Skills & Requirements

• Philadelphia experience is required; pediatric experience is preferred
• Bilingual Spanish speaking skills are preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training/certification is advantageous
• Availability to work Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm, with every other Saturday from 7:30am-3:30pm
• Ability to work flexible hours and adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment
• Knowledge of OSHA and Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulations and adherence to safety protocols
