Job Summary Clinical Nurse I – Endoscopy (Job No. 00138960). Department: Endoscopy. Shift: 9:00 A.M.–7:00 P.M., Monday–Friday, with one rotating day off. Multiple vacancies. Starting salary commensurate with years of RN experience. Typical Duties Identifies, plans, and cares for the total needs of patients, taking into consideration the age‑specific needs of patients in assigned area of responsibility Makes appropriate and timely decisions in crisis or emergency situations Works and communicates effectively with a variety of individuals Provides general direction, guidance, and coordination of patient care given by other levels of nursing staff Applies knowledge of standard operating policies and procedures Operates equipment correctly and safely for patient care in assigned clinical area Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other lifesaving interventions Applies principles of infection control and safety Evaluates patients presenting complaint at triage Performs admission assessment on assigned patients upon arrival to the department Obtains assessment information from patients/significant others as appropriate Collects assessment data to formulate nursing diagnoses and provide appropriate age‑specific care, including IV cannulation and safe medication administration (especially cardiac medications) Performs ongoing and scheduled reassessments according to departmental standards Performs transfer assessments on assigned patients when transferred in or out of the department Establishes nursing diagnoses, problems, desired outcomes, and interventions based on assessed needs Collaborates with patients, significant others, and other health‑care team members in planning care during hospitalization and for discharge Develops a nursing plan of care consistent with other disciplines, considering culture, spiritual values, and age‑specific needs Communicates the nursing plan of care to patients and significant others Performs interventions competently, skillfully, and safely Prioritizes interventions according to patient needs Applies principles of growth and development across the lifespan in providing age‑appropriate care for adults and geriatric patients Provides education to patients and significant others based on assessed learning needs Provides per‑operative teaching and postoperative discharge instructions Performs the technical aspects of care according to established practice standards (procedures, treatments, IV/Blood administration, medical administration) Demonstrates competence in the safe and effective use of clinical equipment Demonstrates competence in applying standard precaution, isolation, and asepsis principles Evaluates patient responses to interventions, modifies and implements interventions as appropriate, and re‑evaluates patient response Records accurately, concisely, and legibly in paper form or electronically (assessment, reassessment, plan, interventions, and patient responses) Signs documentation with a legible signature and classification in paper form and electronically with correct computer sign‑in Performs charge nurse/team‑leader responsibilities competently when assigned Communicates accurately, clearly, and concisely, orally and in writing Demonstrates caring and respectful attitude in verbal and nonverbal communication Communicates pertinent information to patients, physicians, nurses, and other health‑care team members as appropriate Utilizes the chain of command appropriately to address issues of concern Maintains confidentiality of patient‑related information and provides privacy for patient/family Treats patients/families with respect and courtesy Takes appropriate actions to address ethical concerns Acts as a resource nurse/buddy when assigned Assists new hires with information or directions whenever requested Conducts CPR drills, fire drills, and patient‑centered conferences or other unit educational activities as requested or assigned Maintains required certifications in special areas of practice and renews professional license in a timely manner Attends infection‑control in‑services and maintains CPR certification annually Adheres to dress code and demonstrates professional behavior Minimum Qualifications Licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois Two (2) years of nursing experience (required at interview) Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required at interview) Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (required at interview) Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university One (1) year of experience in procedure rooms within an Endoscopy Department One (1) year of experience in Telemetry One (1) year of critical‑care experience in an acute-care setting Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics Knowledge of emergency decontamination procedures Knowledge of emergency procedures (e.g., fire, evacuation, internal and external disaster plans) Knowledge of medications, IV fluids, and correct admission based on patient age and clinical condition Demonstrate competence in the safe and effective use of clinical equipment Demonstrate working knowledge of accrediting and regulatory agency requirements Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with people from diverse backgrounds Strong customer‑service and empathy skills Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and conflict‑management/resolution skills Demonstrate attention to detail, accuracy, and precision Ability to perform pre‑procedure assessment and post‑procedure reassessment Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to resolve complex administrative and patient‑care problems and conduct research Ability to prioritize, plan, and organize projects and tasks Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and composure in challenging situations Ability to work autonomously and as a team member in a multidisciplinary team Physical abilities: see and hear clearly (including with correction), tolerate unpleasant noise, odor, and temperature; walk extensively, lift moderately heavy objects, climb stairs, and perform mobility tasks (push, pull, twist, turn, bend, kneel, stoop, reach above shoulder, stand for prolonged periods). Ability to make appropriate and timely decisions in crisis or emergency situations Ability to perform and/or direct cardiopulmonary resuscitation activities Veteran Preference Preference is given to honorably discharged veterans with at least six months of continuous service.
