Reading Interventionist, Alpha - $120,000/year USD
$120kCrossover for Work
$120,000 annual salary, paid each week, with health, dental, and vision coverage starting day one Full-time on-site at one Alpha location: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Malibu, Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available) 40 hours per week, entirely in-classroom with students in grades K-3 Your structured-literacy certification — Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson, IMSE, or a Master's in reading instruction — has opened the door at every K-3 reading position you've pursued. At most of those jobs, it also represented the upper limit: you delivered someone else's curriculum and documented results. Here that credential marks the entry point. If that difference resonates with you, continue reading. Alpha has dismantled conventional instruction. Students work through academic content independently using AI-adaptive applications. There are no lectures, no textbooks, and no pacing calendars. Your position is the single area where human expertise cannot be replaced. You create 20-minute small-group sessions informed by live app analytics; sessions are deliberately brief because targeted instruction outperforms duration. You also lead motivation sessions designed to bring 100% of students to their weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational framework (campus currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate game mechanics). You catch a miscue during a session, identify the underlying phonemic deficit, and redesign the next day's workshop before the school day ends. That is the expectation. Families at these locations have selected Alpha for measurable results, not simply enrollment. Parents review weekly performance data on their child's reading development and they ask questions. You will field specific inquiries about individual student progress, and vague reassurances will not suffice. You will reference the running record, identify the phonemic weakness, and describe your instructional response. That level of accountability should energize you, not drain you. Your initial months focus on proving your impact. Workshops must be engaging, appropriately leveled, and demonstrably effective; student satisfaction and "love your Guide" survey scores (target 90%+) measure this directly. Once you establish credibility, your influence expands beyond your own classroom: methods that succeed with your students become templates for other Alpha sites, and your diagnostic precision informs how reading instruction evolves as Alpha scales. What you develop here extends well beyond your immediate environment. Before we extend an offer, you will submit a short video in which you tell an engaging story suitable for young children, and you will spend an entire day on campus teaching K-3 students directly. Low energy with children will disqualify you, regardless of credential strength. That is intentional. What You Will Be Doing Creating small-group reading workshops for K-3 students using real-time adaptive-app data, rooted in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent) Leading daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of students to weekly app targets using Alpha's motivational system (campus currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate game mechanics) Analyzing AI-generated performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction during the day, not only during planning time Conducting running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to generate growth visible in weekly campus data reviews Serving as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-3 students are excited to see daily What You Won’t Be Doing Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson plan, or district pacing calendar; you create instruction from student performance data Delivering whole-class lectures; all teaching occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive applications Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach for other teachers, or district-level specialist; you work directly with students in the classroom every day Managing a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework correction, or test preparation. Your time is structured around workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic evaluations; student progress is tracked through app analytics and your running records, not special-education documentation Reading Interventionist Key Responsibilities Generate quantifiable reading growth in phonics, fluency, and comprehension for K-3 students within a campus culture where outcomes are evaluated weekly. Basic Requirements Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2+ years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, using systematic phonics or structured literacy Proven capacity to design original reading lessons and explain what you teach and how, without depending on a published program Willingness to work on-site full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Malibu, Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boston, MA; New York City, NY; or Seattle, WA (relocation assistance available) Willingness to teach all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily instruction as these tools develop Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship Nice-to-have Requirements Direct experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation Documented record of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvements, decoding level progress) you can cite with specific numbers Familiarity with diagnostic reading assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter networks, premium tutoring with families who monitor outcomes closely) Background in performance, youth sports coaching, or otherwise engaging a K-3 audience outside traditional reading instruction About Alpha Alpha reimagines the school day around faster learning, stronger mentorship, and more time for students to build real-world skills. Join the team building school around student growth Alpha hires teachers (guides), operators, admissions experts, school & curriculum leaders, and remote team members.
