Job Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) – Veterans Health Administration (VHA) – McGuire/Richmond VA Medical Center (VAMC)/ (VISN 6) Department of Neurology. The successful candidate will serve as a Neurologist and provide and maintain a high level of quality inpatient and outpatient care services in all aspects of acute and chronic neurology and movement disorders. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or equivalent degree from an VA‑approved school. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification. Additional residency options as described in the job announcement. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physician must be physically able to perform the duties of the position (VA Directive and Handbook 5019). A pre‑placement physical examination shall be completed prior to appointment. Preferred experience: Completion of a movement disorder fellowship; interest and experience beyond residency in neurology; additional training in movement disorders; research and teaching; administrative experience with budgeting and team collaboration. Duties and Responsibilities This is an open continuous announcement and will remain open until September 30 2026 or until all positions are filled. Initial referral cut‑off date: 15 June 2026, with subsequent cut‑off dates every two weeks. Incumbent’s duties include provision of neurologic evaluation and treatment of Veterans, both inpatient and outpatient, with compassion, education, and counseling of Veterans and their families. BLS certification is required. Maintain confidentiality of all VA beneficiary information. Oversee the Neurology Consult service, including supervision of residents and medical students, supervision of inpatient procedures, and teaching of housestaff and students. Use clinical video telehealth (CVT) and electronic consultation (eConsult) to improve access to neurological care. Work within individual privileges at all times and maintain current knowledge and skills. Deliver interventions across the full spectrum of neurological care, maintaining diagnostic and therapeutic acumen. Serve as a leader or active member on Medical Center committees as requested. Participate in inpatient consults, clinic, and on‑call periods assigned by the supervisor. Write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with specialty services, and use electronic medical records. Provide outpatient care in accordance with professional standards, core values, and commitment to service excellence. Collaborate with other Neurologists in a collaborative care model. Perform neurological evaluations, patient examinations, diagnosis, consultations, and teaching of residents, fellows, and students. Complete administrative components of patient care management: documentation of progress notes and consultation findings, dictation and electronic signature of reports, and electronic entry of all orders. Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Benefits and Compensation Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 50–55 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays, and up to 5 days for CME). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% employer contribution. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, long‑term care; many federal programs carried into retirement. Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory. CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (full‑time with board certification). Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage. No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) eligibility: student loan payment reimbursement up to $200,000, eligibility period one to five years. Former participants are ineligible. #J-18808-Ljbffr
