Job Title: Warehouse Worker Job Description

This role is responsible for receiving, storing, and issuing materials, equipment, and other items within a stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard. You will help maintain accurate inventory records, keep storage areas organized and safe, and support daily warehouse operations through careful handling, documentation, and inspection of stock.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming stock items, verify quantities, and record data accurately either manually or using a computer system.

• Count and document inventory on a regular basis to maintain accurate stock records.

• Pack and unpack items to be stocked on shelves in stockrooms, warehouses, or storage yards.

• Store items in an orderly, safe, and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other storage areas.

• Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock, and investigate discrepancies or correct errors as needed.

• Label or mark stock items using identification tags, stamps, electric marking tools, or other labeling equipment to ensure clear identification.

• Clean and maintain supplies, tools, equipment, and storage areas to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.

• Keep detailed records of stock usage, damage, and the condition of stock handling equipment.

• Examine and inspect stock items for wear, defects, or damage and promptly report issues to supervisors.

• Provide assistance, guidance, or direction to other stockroom, warehouse, or storage yard workers to support efficient operations.

• Use RF scanners and other warehouse equipment to locate, pick, pack, and load materials accurately.

• Follow established policies, procedures, and strategies that support safe and secure warehouse operations.

Essential Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Analytical and problem-solving ability to identify and resolve inventory or stock discrepancies.

• Ability to work effectively as a team player while maintaining a high level of detail orientation.

• Knowledge of relevant warehouse equipment and tools used for receiving, storing, and moving materials.

• Knowledge of RF scanners and their use in inventory and picking processes.

• Understanding of policies, procedures, and strategies that support effective security and protection of people, data, property, and facilities.

• High school diploma or GED required.

• 2–4 years of experience in a warehouse, stockroom, or similar material handling role.

• Prior experience in roles such as Material Handler or similar positions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior warehouse experience in pick, pack, and load operations is preferred.

• Experience with material handling, including receiving, storage, and inventory management.

• Ability to maintain accurate records of stock usage, damage, and equipment condition.

• Comfort working with both manual and computerized inventory systems.

• Capability to follow safety regulations and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Work Environment

This position is based in a warehouse or storage yard environment that includes stockrooms, tool rooms, and supply rooms. You will work a consistent schedule from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The role involves regular use of warehouse equipment, RF scanners, labeling tools, and computers to manage inventory and handle materials. The setting requires maintaining clean, organized, and safe storage areas in compliance with safety regulations, and you can expect to be on your feet frequently while moving, packing, and storing items throughout the shift.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Old Lyme, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.75 - $18.75/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
