Logistics Specialist
Outlast is disrupting the largest market you've never heard of. The bulk recyclables industry is a ~$1 trillion industry yet is largely a technological desert. Outlast is transforming recyclables trade through technology. Our platform enables suppliers and buyers to safely and effortlessly transact their materials at the push of a button. Beyond connecting suppliers and buyers, we also provide global logistics, financing, and quality control. As a company, we are keenly focused on optimizing the customer experience and doing good for the environment by promoting recycling. On the latter, the proof is in the facts: recycling 1 ton of material is the equivalent to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of more than 7,000 miles in a passenger car. Outlast is poised for explosive growth, completing several rounds of funding and landing contracts that can scale to $100s of millions in revenue.
As our Logistics Specialist, you'll play a critical role in keeping our scrap metal and recyclables moving efficiently across domestic and international markets. This position combines hands-on operational execution with growing strategic responsibility. You'll start by mastering the fundamentals of our fulfillment process while developing the skills to manage our logistics operations. You'll own key aspects of our supply chain: coordinating shipments within tight timeframes, managing carrier relationships, ensuring accurate documentation, and proactively solving problems before they impact our operations. Your work will directly affect our ability to execute sales and purchase orders efficiently and maintain our competitive edge. This role requires someone who can balance careful attention to detail with practical problem-solving. You'll need to be organized, reliable, and eager to learn the complexities of logistics management while embracing the ambiguous, fast-paced nature of startup operations. You'll collaborate closely with customers, carriers, and internal teams (Sales, Finance, and Engineering) to keep our supply chain running smoothly. For someone who takes pride in getting things right, embraces learning opportunities, and wants to grow into a leadership role, this position offers a clear path from operational proficiency to strategic logistics management.
What You'll Do:
- Execute Order Fulfillment: Coordinate the movement of material for sales and purchase orders, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries
- Manage Shipping Logistics: Arrange trucks, containers, and freight for domestic and export shipments
- Maintain Documentation: Prepare and organize shipping paperwork with accuracy
- Build Carrier Relationships: Communicate effectively with carriers and service providers to ensure reliable service
- Monitor Performance: Track key metrics like pickup delays and identify opportunities for improvement
- Solve Problems Proactively: Anticipate potential shipping issues and work with the Operations team to develop solutions
- Support Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas for reducing costs and increasing efficiency as you learn the business
Who You Are:
- Someone who understands logistics operations requires flexibility and takes ownership of seeing shipments through to completion
- A detail-oriented professional who doesn't let things slip through the cracks
- Eager to learn the freight business and develop expertise in scrap metal logistics
- Comfortable picking up the phone to resolve issues quickly and directly
- Able to stay organized while managing multiple competing priorities
- A team player who's coachable and not afraid to ask questions when needed
Qualifications:
- Coachable self-starter with strong attention to detail and a proactive work ethic
- 1-3 years of experience in tech startups, logistics, and/or operations
- Basic understanding of shipping documentation and carrier coordination or willingness to learn
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficient with Google Suite and able to learn new systems quickly
- Familiarity with scrap metal or recyclables logistics
$65,000 - $80,000 a year Depending on experience.
Outlast Core Values:
Have Courage: Take risks and challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. No one ever invented the wheel by continuing to carve squares. Own your successes and failures.
Scrap Daily: Don't lose track of what we do. It is a dirty job, but we choose to do it. Roll up your sleeves. No job is too big or too small. Be proud of who we are and what we are doing.
Have No Ceiling: If you plan to be a better person every day, you will always be on a path to personal and professional improvement. This mentality will push your peers to follow the same journey.
Be Accountable: Hold yourself to the same standards that you hold others. Lead by example and do not tolerate less than the highest degree of effort and professionalism from yourself and your colleagues.
Appreciative Inquiry: Build up your team! We learn more by listening than we do talking. Have empathy with your peers, customers, and managers. Listen and reflect before responding and reacting. Five minds contemplating a solution is more powerful than one mouth yelling it.
Over Our Skis: Don't get too comfortable. You never know what is around the corner. We must nurture a healthy paranoia over disappointing our customers and actively wage war on our competitors!
