The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit, anti-hunger organization whose mission is to feed people, strengthen communities, and end hunger for more Marylanders. MFB does this work by expanding access to nutritious food while also seeking to eliminate the root causes of hunger.

MFB's distributes food through a statewide network of community-based organizations from Maryland's western mountains to its Eastern Shore. Last year, the Maryland Food Bank distributed enough food to provide the equivalent of more than 41 million meals, or about 114,000 meals every day. This healthy food supports children, seniors, veterans, and hard-working families.

MFB works to end hunger for more Marylanders by offering job training programs, access to supportive services and benefits, and by advocating to change the laws, policies, and practices that create food insecurity for more than 1 in 3 Marylanders.

About the position:

The Facilities Specialist performs custodial and light maintenance duties to support the safe, clean, and efficient operation of Food Bank facilities and grounds. This role troubleshoots facility issues, completes minor repairs, responds to maintenance needs, coordinates event setup and breakdown, and works closely with staff, volunteers, and the public to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

Primary responsibilities:

• Perform custodial and sanitation duties throughout warehouse facilities, equipment, and building grounds to maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment.
• Follow established sanitation and safety schedules, ensuring all assigned cleaning and maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on time.
• Operate, clean, and maintain equipment such as floor scrubbers, forklifts, power equipment, and hand tools in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Use cleaning chemicals, supplies, and materials safely and effectively while adhering to organizational procedures and safety standards.
• Assist with facility upkeep by moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and tools as needed to support daily operations and special projects.
• Remove snow, ice, debris, and other hazards from sidewalks, stairs, and designated exterior areas surrounding Food Bank facilities.
• Support pest control efforts and help identify and report facility concerns that may impact cleanliness, safety, or operations.
• Assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment by following safety protocols and reporting hazards, damages, or security issues.
• Set up and break down equipment, furniture, and materials for Food Bank programs, meetings, special events, and community activities.

Basic qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years of experience in facilities, custodial, maintenance, or related work.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana) and background check.
• Strong communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace and food safety.

Preferred qualifications:

• Previous training certification in forklift or material handling equipment.
• Direct experience in customer service
• Forklift operating experience and/or certification.
• Experience supporting facility operations, event setup/breakdown, and general building maintenance.

Work environment:

• Work is performed in a mixed environment including warehouse, office, and outdoor settings.
• Exposure to fluctuating temperatures, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments.

Salary range:

• $20.00/ per hour
