SUMMARY:

The position of paralegal provides support to attorneys in the Legal Division. Under the direction of an attorney, the paralegal resolves routine legal issues, aids in the preparation and handling of routine documentation and assists in the flow of correspondence and communication with internal bank departments and outside counsel. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the financial services industry, including but not limited to, business litigation, subpoenas, legal requests, real estate, and estate-related inquiries is of particular interest due to the high-volume transactional nature of the position. This position relies on experience and good judgment to plan and accomplish goals with some supervision and typically reports to the supervising attorney.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provides support to attorneys in the Legal Division - from handling routine legal issues, drafting and tracking routine correspondence related to subpoenas and other legal requests, to assisting with administrative duties within the department.
• Support discovery and research efforts by collecting information and maintaining documentation from internal banking systems. 
• Maintain logs, trackers, and case management records.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of bank products and services, including training and knowledge of bank systems.
• Adhere to confidentiality, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
• Adheres specifically to all corporate policies and procedures, including annual completion of compliance courses. Also adheres to Federal and State regulations and laws; including, the Bank Secrecy Act and the Anti-Money Laundering Act.
• Develop and maintain a good working relationship with colleagues and business partners across the branch network and internal business operations. 
• Maintain knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other bank systems of record. 
• Adheres to our Service Excellence standards and promotes their implementation with peers and associates they support.
• Perform other duties as required.

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge & Experience : These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); may require an associate’s degree or its equivalent, paralegal certification and at least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. 
• Work-related experience should consist of duties in a business environment. 
• Ongoing educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, certification or financial industry related curriculum. 
• Intermediate knowledge of bank operations, products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations, and other bank operational policies and procedures. 
• Excellent organizational and time management skills - ability to work with minimal supervision. 
• Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; word processing, spreadsheet and specialty software programs. 
• Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence and procedures, speak clearly to customers, employees, and outside counsel.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment: Vision, hearing, speech, dexterity, visual concentration. A valid driver’s license is required. Must have the ability to stand, walk, sit and use hands and fingers. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. The environment is a professional office with standard office equipment.
