Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our Urgent Care team in Juneau, Alaska. This role is integral to providing appropriate and timely nursing care for patients of all ages, ensuring quality, evidence-based, and cost-effective health outcomes within a dynamic clinical environment.

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary nursing team, including RNs, LPNs, and Clinical Assistants, the Registered Nurse will perform comprehensive patient assessments, prioritize patient needs, manage patient flow, and coordinate care as ordered by providers. This position requires strong critical thinking skills to utilize standing orders effectively, expediting care and patient services. The ability to adapt and support various departmental functions daily is also essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform initial triage and comprehensive patient assessments for individuals presenting for urgent care services, both in-person and via telephone.
• Provide telephone-based nursing services, including assessment, self-care advice, and guidance on appropriate care options.
• Administer therapeutic measures, including oral, topical, intramuscular (IM), subcutaneous (SQ), intradermal, intravenous (IV) push, and IV infusion medications.
• Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue IV access and therapy, including the preparation and mixing of concentrated medication solutions or powders for secondary IV therapies.
• Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment as indicated by patient needs.
• Document all assessments, observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, health counseling, and patient education provided, evaluating patient comprehension.
• Facilitate the coordination of patient referrals within the facility or to external facilities, tracking progress and outcomes, and providing status reports to providers.
• Serve as a primary link for other case managers and referral coordinators in patient care coordination, proactively identifying and addressing delays or obstacles to care.
• Conduct next-day patient follow-up calls and manage each situation appropriately.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring adequate supplies, proper equipment upkeep, and adherence to infection control policies and procedures.
• Participate in department and clinic team efforts, including quality improvement initiatives and continued clinical team development.
• Respond to emergency situations and fulfill a primary triage role.
• May serve as a vaccine coordinator or secondary vaccine coordinator for the clinic.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Minimum of two (2) years of general nursing experience.
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an ambulatory or urgent care clinic setting.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
