Public Health Nurse

Date: Jun 26, 2026 Location: FORT STOCKTON, TX Job Overview Under the general direction of the Family & Community Health Services Nurse Supervisor II and the Regional Medical Director, this position performs routine public health nursing work in clinical and non‑clinical settings based out of Fort Stockton or Van Horn, Texas. The role requires frequent travel to field offices in Presidio, Alpine and other satellite sites. Responsibilities Direct Client Services – Administers medications, immunizations, testing and treatments, prepares patient records, and provides counseling. Manages pharmaceuticals and vaccine inventory. Population‑Based Community Outreach – Provides information on child health, maternal health, perinatal infant health, and tobacco cessation through education sessions, presentations and community events. Plans events, attends training, and networks with community stakeholders. Disease Prevention/Control – Identifies community resources, makes referrals, supports case management, conducts home visits, and aids in disease surveillance and intervention planning. Ensures compliance with immunization, tuberculosis, HIV/STD, vector‑borne disease protocols. Other Related Duties – Participates in disaster response and continuity operations, operates state or personal vehicles safely, and completes required training. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of nursing theory, cultural/social dynamics, Texas Board of Nursing rules, public health principles, and clinic operations. Skill in assessing clients with complex health problems and basic nursing care. Skill in computer data input, database programs, word processing and internet use. Ability to maintain CPR certification and perform basic nursing skills. Ability to collaborate with public officials, physicians and agency personnel. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats. Ability to exercise independent judgment in clinical situations. Ability to prioritize, lead, maintain confidentiality, and drive within state or personal vehicle. Licensure & Certifications Current registered nurse license in Texas (or eligible for Texas license). If eligible, must be obtained before employment. Current Texas Class C driver’s license. Current CPR certification. Initial Screening Criteria Registered nurse licensed in Texas or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. Two years of nursing or public health experience, including case management or infectious disease experience. Two years of experience in a medical clinical setting. Willingness to travel 40% of the time. Additional Information Phone or Teams video interview may be utilized.
