Role Description The Family Court Associate Attorney is a full-time, on-site role based in Charleston, SC. This position involves managing a caseload of family law matters, including divorce, custody, support, and related issues, from intake through resolution. Day-to-day responsibilities include drafting pleadings, motions, and agreements; conducting legal research; preparing discovery; and meeting with clients to provide counsel and case updates. The attorney will appear in family court for hearings, trials, and mediation, working closely with partners and staff to develop case strategies and negotiate settlements. The role also includes maintaining detailed case files, ensuring deadlines are met, and contributing to the firm's professional reputation through ethical and effective advocacy. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong family law knowledge, including experience or demonstrated interest in divorce, custody, support, and related domestic relations matters. Candidates should possess legal research and writing skills, including the ability to draft motions, pleadings, briefs, and client correspondence with accuracy and clarity. Candidates should possess litigation and advocacy skills, including courtroom appearance experience or readiness, oral argument capabilities, and effective negotiation skills. Candidates should possess client service and communication skills, including the ability to manage sensitive client relationships, explain complex issues clearly, and maintain confidentiality. Candidates should possess organizational and case management skills, including time management, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple matters and deadlines. Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active South Carolina bar admission (or eligibility to obtain) are required. Prior experience in family law or related litigation is preferred; experience in federal criminal practice is a plus.
