The Opportunity

This is a rare, ground-floor opportunity to be the #2 finance leader in a fast-moving, private

equity-backed business. The CFO brings a strong financial and strategic background and is

looking for a Controller who owns the accounting foundation completely. This is a true division

of labor: you run the books, build the controls, and keep the balance sheet clean; together you

translate that into business decisions. Beyond technical execution, the CFO is looking for a

partner to help design and build the finance infrastructure from the ground up, develop and

upskill a legacy bookkeeping team, and scale the function to support a business that will more

than triple in size over the next three years.

The Controller will be a coach, a builder, and a doer — someone who can design a best-in-class

month-end close process in the morning and roll up their sleeves on a reconciliation in the

afternoon. This role is not for someone who needs a fully built playbook or a seasoned team

beneath them. It is for someone who is energized by a blank canvas, patient as a teacher, and

relentless as an executor.

What You'll Own

1. Month-End Close

• Design, implement, and own a scalable, repeatable month-end close process — largely from scratch
• Establish a close calendar, task ownership matrix, and checklist framework across all entities
• Build a policy and controls environment that creates accountability at every step — and document it so the process is repeatable and auditable
• Train and guide the team through the process every cycle, raising the bar incrementally
• Own the balance sheet — reconciliations are current

2. Multi-Entity Consolidation

• Lead monthly consolidation across 6 legal entities today, scaling to 20+ over the next 3 years
• Build intercompany elimination and consolidation workflows in NetSuite
• Prepare consolidated financial reporting packages for CFO and PE sponsors
• Lead accounting integration for acquired entities — people, processes, systems, and chart of accounts harmonization
• Convert acquired companies from cash to accrual and POC accounting as needed

3. NetSuite — Own the System

• Serve as the internal NetSuite expert — own configuration, chart of accounts, reporting, and user support
• Lead NetSuite onboarding for acquired entities
• Identify and implement system improvements that increase efficiency and reporting quality
• Comfortable navigating and learning adjacent tools (Ramp, ADP, etc.) with minimal hand-holding

4. Cash Management & AP

• Oversee and improve the AP process — vendor terms, payment runs, approval workflows
• Own short-term cash flow forecasting; provide weekly cash position updates to CFO
• Identify working capital improvement opportunities

5. Audit & Tax

• Own the relationship with the external audit and tax team — serve as primary day-to-day contact
• Lead audit preparation: PBC schedules, support documentation, flux analysis
• Coordinate tax provision and filing support with external CPA firm
• Navigate the team to a clean, on-time audit every year

6. Team Development & Leadership

• Identify gaps and help the CFO build a team org structure to support the company's growth trajectory
• Assess the current finance team's skills and design a development plan to upskill toward GAAP competency
• Be a patient, engaged teacher — explain the "why" behind accounting, not just the "what"
• Set performance expectations and hold team members accountable with clarity and respect

Qualifications

Required

• 7–12+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Hands-on NetSuite experience — must be able to navigate and configure with minimal guidance

• Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a month-end close process

• Multi-entity accounting or consolidation experience

• Strong GAAP knowledge, including revenue recognition and accrual accounting

• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff

Strongly Preferred

• CPA license

• Private equity-backed or high-growth company experience

• M&A integration experience — systems, processes, and people

• Experience with POC (percentage of completion) revenue recognition

• Background in industrial services, field services, or project-based businesses
