Responsibilities The Donor Social Worker conducts comprehensive psychosocial assessments, individual psychotherapy, treatment plans, and support, including coordination of discharge planning for potential kidney and liver donors through all phases of care including pre-donation, donation, and post-donation. The Donor Social Worker collaborates with the multidisciplinary transplant team, complies with required standards for medical/legal responsibilities, and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the Section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing. Under the supervision of a social worker who meets state required standards, conducts diagnostic assessment, determines clinical interventions, facilitates crisis intervention and psychotherapy, and provides education for patients and their families. Communicates effectively verbally and in writing while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external support systems. Participates in the development and implementation of the treatment/transition plan. Functions as a multidisciplinary team member. Functions within the research, practice, and education shields at Mayo Clinic. Complies with ethical and NASW standards for social workers in a healthcare setting, including medical/legal responsibilities, and serves as a resource to other allied and administrative staff within the Section of Social Work and the Department of Nursing. Qualifications A MSW degree is required from an accredited Masters of Social Work Program. Additional Qualifications Knowledgeable about living organ donation and transplantation. Must have an advanced knowledge of categories in mental illness, personality development, knowledge of the types of psychiatric treatment, and skills in conducting individual, group, and family therapy. Must have knowledge in adjustment to medical diagnosis and chronic disease. Strong human relation skills are needed to interact with patients, patient's family members, consultants, residents, hospital personnel, community agencies, and other resources. Must also have psychosocial diagnostic skills. Minnesota Licensure Licensure by applicable state requirements. Licensure at the Licensed Graduate Social Work (LGSW), Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), provisional LGSW, or provisional LICSW level from the Minnesota Board of Social Work (MN BOSW) is required. LGSW/LISW personnel, following 4000 hours of clinically supervised practice are eligible to apply for licensure at the LICSW level, and must by 8000 hours. A condition of employment at the LGSW/LISW level shall be the ability to practice clinically through a MN BOSW approved Clinical Supervision Plan leading to LICSW attainment within 8000 hours of employment post LGSW or LISW.
