Residential Services Coordinator

Title: Residential Services Coordinator Status: Full-time, nonexempt, in-person Pay: $24-$25 per hour Schedule: Friday - Tuesday, 4:00pm - 12:30am (off Wednesday & Thursday) Location(s): San Diego, CA (downtown) Urban Street Angels, Inc. (“USA”) is a local non-profit organization founded in 2012 with a mission to end youth homelessness in the San Diego area. Currently, USA operates in three related areas. First, our supportive housing programs provide over 200 beds for transition-aged youth ("TAY" 18 – 24 years old) living on the streets in our community. Second, our rapid re-housing programs effectively bridge graduates of our programs to sustainable, long-term housing. Third, our 5-Tool Trade Academy provides access to vocational training, career pathways, and employment opportunities for TAY in our supportive housing and rapid re-housing programs. Position Overview: The Residential Services Coordinator / Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in overseeing the daily residential operations of the HarborTAY facility, ensuring participants receive high-quality care, support, and supervision. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and positive living environment while also leading participant engagement activities that promote community building, life skills development, wellness, and positive program participation. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and crisis intervention skills, a compassionate approach to participant care, and a commitment to helping youth achieve their goals and long-term stability. Job Duties: Effectively manage multiple responsibilities while responding to the needs of up to 54 Transitional Age Youth (TAY) participants Remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when addressing participant concerns, crises, emergencies, or unexpected situations Take primary responsibility for developing, planning, coordinating, facilitating, and monitoring participant engagement activities during assigned shifts, with the goal of increasing program participation, positive peer interactions, community building, life skills development, and overall participant engagement Provide peer support, encouragement, and education to participants, including reducing stigma related to mental health and promoting overall wellness Create and maintain a monthly participant engagement calendar that includes recreational, educational, wellness, employment, volunteer, and community-based activities Proactively encourage participant involvement in onsite activities, special events, workshops, volunteer opportunities, and community outings Serve as a liaison between participants, community partners, service providers, volunteers, and linked programs, encouraging participant utilization of available resources Provide ongoing side-by-side support and coaching related to independent living skills, daily living activities, employment readiness, and personal development Assist participants with household responsibilities, job searches, trade school applications, and other self-sufficiency goals Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation of participant interactions, engagement activities, incidents, and services in accordance with program requirements and agency procedures Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance and actively contribute as a collaborative member of the program team Support staff and participants in maintaining a safe, supportive, and positive residential environment Ensure compliance with program rules, policies, procedures, and participant expectations Provide after-hours support and respond appropriately to participant needs, emergencies, crises, and behavioral concerns Monitor participant activities, including site access, departures and arrivals, behavioral changes, and adherence to program expectations Conduct routine property inspections and identify safety hazards, security concerns, maintenance needs, or policy violations Respond to emergency, safety, security, and crisis situations and contact emergency responders, law enforcement, or other appropriate resources when necessary Maintain ongoing communication with program staff regarding participant concerns, incidents, safety issues, and significant developments Immediately notify supervisory staff of incidents, emergencies, safety concerns, or other matters requiring management reviewMaintain daily shift logs and document security checks, safety inspections, incidents, observations, and corrective actions taken Participate in regular case conferencing and collaborate closely with staff to ensure youth are actively progressing through each phase of the program model and receiving coordinated support toward housing stability, income development, and independent living goals Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required Minimum one (1) year of experience working with transition-age youth (TAY), individuals experiencing homelessness, or other vulnerable populations Lived experience or familiarity with challenges commonly faced by TAY preferred Experience supporting youth with independent living skills, including housing, transportation, education, employment, financial aid, GED preparation, and community resource navigation Knowledge of Housing First, trauma-informed care, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, homelessness systems, public benefits, employment resources, and community services Ability to effectively support individuals experiencing housing instability, mental health, behavioral health, and other complex challenges Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport, maintain professional boundaries, and work effectively with diverse populations Ability to maintain confidentiality and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team Completion of a California-recognized Peer Support Specialist training program, or willingness to complete within six (6) months of hire Basic computer skills, including email, documentation, and case management systems Valid California Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and work in indoor and outdoor environments Must successfully complete a Live Scan background check, provide a negative TB test Authorized to work in the United States Preferred Qualifications: Experience assisting participants with Medi-Cal, CalFresh, CalWORKs, SSI/SSDI, or other public benefits Training in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Crisis Intervention, De-Escalation, Suicide Prevention, or Domestic Violence Experience using electronic case management systems such as Efforts to Outcomes (ETO), HMIS, or related databases Bilingual in Spanish preferred Benefits: Medical
