Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners in a supportive elementary autism program. This full-time contract position provides the chance to empower students with Autism Spectrum Disorder in a self-contained classroom, fostering growth in academic, social, communication, and life skills. Working in a structured environment, you will collaborate with a dedicated team to offer individualized support to students with diverse cognitive, communication, and behavioral needs.
What You'll Do:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student
- Deliver direct, standards-based instruction aligned with personalized student goals
- Use evidence-based strategies and structured teaching methods for students with autism
- Integrate positive behavioral interventions and implement behavior intervention plans
- Work closely with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and related service providers
- Guide and supervise classroom paraprofessionals
- Monitor student progress, maintain documentation, and ensure compliance with special education requirements
- Encourage development in communication, social interaction, independence, and self-regulation
- Cultivate a safe, structured, and engaging classroom atmosphere
Desired Skills & Experience:
- Current Virginia Special Education Teaching License or eligibility
- Proficiency in developing, implementing, and documenting IEPs
- Solid classroom management and behavioral support skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and engage with families
- Preferred: Experience working with students on the autism spectrum in self-contained settings
- Familiarity with ABA, structured teaching, visual supports, social stories, and functional communication systems
- Training in crisis prevention or de-escalation is a plus
