Responsibilities of the Senior Paralegal:Under the supervision of the Chief Legal officer, the incumbent must have discretion and ethical judgment skills that align with legal and moral standards, and the Code of Judicial Conduct. The incumbent will perform administrative and paralegal services for the Agency's Chief Legal Counsel, Chief Staff Attorney/Deputy Legal Counsel, Special Counsel and Chief Clerk/Executive Director. Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:Help prepare, draft and process official orders issued by the Commission, hearing officers and hearing examiners for review and approval by Chief Legal Counsel, Chief Staff Attorney/Deputy Legal Counsel and/or Special Counsel.Perform administrative duties and prepare weekly documents assigned by Chief Legal Counsel, Chief Staff Attorney/Deputy Legal Counsel, Special Counsel and Chief Clerk/Executive Director.Responsible for consistent and timely PSC response to outside correspondence and complainants in accordance with PSC policies and regulations.Aid in ensuring compliance with the Code of Judicial Conduct and the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.Assist in calendaring of all hearings, meetings and appointments.Operate office equipment to copy, scan and print documents for paper filing or e-filing.Minimum and Additional Requirements:A college level paralegal degree with at least two (2) years of paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work. At least ten (10) years of relevant work experience may be substituted in lieu of educational degree.Ability to perform legal research in accordance with preliminary instructions as to methods or approach, source material available, and policy and precedent of the office.Must have the ability to draft clear, concise orders and reports.Must have knowledge and prior use of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 (including Teams).Must have the ability to convey complex legal concepts in simple terms, which is crucial for training and collaboration.Must have problem-solving skills to provide creative solutions that balance time constraints with work product.Must have adaptability with changing regulations.Must have collaborative work ethic as tasks may involve teamwork across departments.Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.Must provide proof of paralegal certificate upon employment.Position may require routine driver duties.Position may require employee to work evenings and/or weekends and during emergency situations.Position may require bending and/or stooping and frequent lifting up to 10 lbs.Proficiency in using legal research tools like Westlaw, LexisNexis, and government databases.Work requires meticulous attention to detail to identify potential risks and ensure accuracy in documentation.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of Utility Regulation to include an understanding of the regulatory processes.Prior experience in Utility Regulation.Paralegal Certificate.Additional Comments:The Public Service Commission is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions, including, but not limited, to lactation), national origin, age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
