Position Summary NeighborHealth, a leading community health center in Massachusetts, is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Development (DoD) to lead its individual and major gift fundraising and philanthropic efforts. The DoD will design, implement, and oversee the individual and major gifts development strategy to support NeighborHealth’s mission of providing accessible, high‑quality healthcare to underserved communities. Responsibilities Develop, manage, and execute the organization’s individual giving program, including an annual strategic fundraising plan, targeted outreach, prospecting for major donors, writing appeal letters, and partnering with senior leadership and the Board to secure gifts and steward long‑term relationships. Develop, manage, and execute the major donor program, including strategies for identifying, opening doors, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors. Build philanthropic results by developing staffing plans that grow with fundraising outcomes. Work closely with Marketing to produce collateral, public relations/press, and social‑media assets for fundraising and friend‑raising events. Use the CEO strategically to advance both individual and institutional major gifts programs. Cross‑collaborate with Grants and Government Affairs to align grant submissions and other revenue‑generating projects with development efforts. Assist Grants with grant or report needs, especially those related to grant funding secured via Development‑formed relationships. Work with Government Affairs to ensure strategically aligned communications with project partners and prospective donors. Design, supervise, and support various fundraising events each year, including program content, solicitation of financial support, logistics, vendor relations, and meeting targeted fundraising expectations. Collaborate with the Senior Director of Grants & Development, the CEO, senior leadership, and the Board to expand corporate partnerships, ensuring donor goals align with the organization’s needs. Supervise and motivate the development team and contractors, providing leadership, direction, praise, and constructive feedback. Serve as an active member of the organization’s Manager’s team, ensuring alignment between organizational goals, financial realities, and fundraising capacity. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred or at least 10 years of experience in management/leadership roles. Minimum 7 years of experience as a multi‑faceted fundraiser for a nonprofit. Demonstrated experience building, engaging, and sustaining a comprehensive development program, using diverse strategies and well‑designed materials. Proven track record in major gift fundraising and ability to conduct donor research, create approach strategies, steward relationships, and manage donor reporting and acknowledgments promptly. Capacity to partner with a diverse team to collaboratively achieve fundraising goals. Self‑motivated, highly organized, and able to work well under pressure. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Knowledge of and experience with fundraising databases (a plus). Regular tasks include sitting, standing, walking, and using a computer. The employee may need to lift or move items up to 20 pounds, maintain adequate visual, hearing, and manual dexterity, and occasionally move between clinic and administrative areas. Safety policies and procedures, including OSHA regulations, apply. Salary This role starts at $111,280 and can increase to $174,720 based on experience.
