Ultrasound Technician

Performs ultrasound procedures at the entry level requiring knowledge of anatomical positioning and physiology. Must be able to perform high quality ultrasound examination for interpretation by a physician on children, adolescents and adults.

Minimum Training and Education:

0-1 year experience in performing ultrasound diagnostic procedures.

Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible required. If not certified, must obtain certification within the first year of employment. Basic Life Support required upon hire. Thereafter, must maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS), either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform job functions while standing (Continuous), sitting (Infrequent), and walking (Continuous). Ability to climb ladders/step stools (Frequent to Infrequent). Ability to work indoors (Continuous), from elevated areas, specifically step stools (Frequent to Infrequent), in confined/cramped spaces (Infrequent). Ability to perform job functions from kneeling positions (Frequent), bend at the waist (Frequent), twist at the waist (Frequent), squat and perform job functions (Frequent), perform 'pinching' operations (Frequent). Ability to fully use both hands/arms (Continuous), perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders (Continuous), both legs (Continuous), reach in all directions (Continuous), maintain good finger dexterity (Continuous), maintain good tactile sensory functions (Continuous), maintain good olfactory sensory function (Continuous). Ability to lift and carry, up to 200 feet, 50#, unassisted. Ability to lift patients and move patients to 350#(+/-), assisted. Ability to lift objects from floor level to height of 72 inches, to 50#, unassisted. Ability to lower objects, to 50#(+/-), from height of 72 inches, unassisted. Ability to push/pull objects/patients to 350#(+/-), unassisted. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected. Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand. Ability to see and recognize objects at a distance. Ability to match or discriminate between colors. Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities. Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. Ability to hear and understand whispered conversations at a distance of 3 feet. Must be ambidextrous. Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. Ability to be qualified physically (by medical personnel) for respirator use, initially and annually. Ability to use hand/power tools. Ability to work in dusty areas. Must possess excellent hand to eye coordination.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Computer literacy. Ability to work overtime as required. Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, equipment as required.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Work Experience: 1 year of modality specific experience preferred. Registration/Certification: Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or ARRT(S) eligible, must obtain certification within 12 months. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
