Remote Facilities Technician - $2,000 Hiring Bonus

Role The Remote Facilities Technician operates and maintains pumps and mechanical equipment at remote sites including pumping stations, deep well sites, lift stations, booster stations, and reservoirs. Job duties include operating and maintaining water and wastewater equipment that controls water flow and processes to maintain effluent quality. Responsibilities Observe, inspect, adjust, operate, monitor, and maintain remote well site equipment, including well pumps, booster stations, gates, valves, analyzers, chlorine injection stations, reservoirs, tank sites, and sewer lift stations in accordance with established procedures. Compute chemical dosages and adjust chemical feed equipment for proper operation and application. Takes and records pressure and production readings from well pumps, and City water and wastewater main service lines. Perform daily operational checks and clean debris from lift stations. Directly operate well pumps as requested by the Senior Operator at the water plant. Perform diagnostic evaluation of equipment and recommend corrective action for operational problems. Collect bacteriological water samples from dedicated sample taps throughout the City. Record location, time, and chlorine residual as requested by the plant chemist. Enter production readings into computer database to formulate daily, monthly, and yearly reports. Compile data for daily operational reports, inventory control, and other day‑to‑day reporting activities. Ensure operations comply with all environmental, health, and safety standards established by federal, state, county, and city laws, ordinances and regulations, and Department and divisional policies. Meet or talk daily with contractors regarding emergency turn off of City mains; meet with Salt River Project and CenturyLink crews at well sites. Assist in changing chlorine cylinders at well sites, reservoirs, and water treatment plants. Operate city vehicles which require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in the operations or maintenance of water and wastewater pumps and water transmission systems. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. One year of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Knowledge of Operation and maintenance of water pumps, water transmission systems, chlorinating and metering equipment, and sewage lift stations. Methods, practices, tools, and materials used in maintaining or repairing booster and sewage lift station equipment. Operation of mobile phones. General operations of a city water services department. Ability to Read and record pressure gauge readings, electrical meters, and other recorders. Keep neat and accurate records and logs. Monitor, troubleshoot, and repair equipment for proper operation. Clean equipment and facilities using various tools including hoses and power washing equipment. Work with and around chemicals, effluent or similar solutions using approved personal protective equipment. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Adjust and lubricate equipment in compliance with preventative maintenance programs. Operate city vehicles which require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Special Requirements ADEQ Grade 1 Water Treatment Plant, Water Distribution System, Wastewater Treatment Plant, or Wastewater Collection System Operator Certificate required at time of application. Must obtain an ADEQ Grade 2 operator certificate within twelve (12) months of hire. Valid Arizona driver’s license. Must obtain a Class C Arizona commercial driver’s license with hazardous materials endorsement within 90 days of hire. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on City business must possess a current, valid Arizona class‑appropriate driver’s license, complete required training, and maintain a clean driving record. Registration with the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse is required for all CDL holders. Position is classified as safety‑sensitive; candidates must successfully undergo drug and alcohol testing prior to employment and may be required for further testing during employment. A post‑offer physical assessment is required. Physical Requirements Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing, walking, and operating city vehicles that require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Working Conditions Shift‑work involving occasional adverse weather conditions and/or traffic areas. Exposure to hazards and toxic materials. Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces to access equipment that requires repair. Benefits Competitive salary and benefits package.
