Job Title

Registered Nurse – Step Down Unit (IMC/PCU/Stepdown)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract (13 Weeks) | Full-Time | Days, 12-Hour Shifts (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM) | Onsite | Three weekends per six-week schedule; every other holiday

Key Responsibilities

• Provide step-down level care for a cardiac-focused patient population including post-procedure cardiac patients (cath/stents/interventions, pacers), arrhythmias, CVA, detox/CIWA, sepsis, DKA, respiratory distress, and patients with feeding tubes
• Perform telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation ; travelers will be required to pass telemetry competency testing
• Initiate and titrate drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Insulin, and Heparin; provide post-heart cath care including femoral and TR band management
• Conduct NIHSS assessments , dysphagia screenings, and strong neurological assessments; manage chest tubes and respiratory support (CPAP/Optiflow)
• Float within skillset as first to float; cross-campus float to a nearby campus (approximately 8 miles) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus is possible
• May be required to precept students and new hires in this teaching facility environment

Required Qualifications

• Current, active RN compact license required
• AHA BLS certification required
• AHA ACLS certification required
• NIHSS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 full year in a step-down setting and at least 1 prior travel assignment; Trauma Level II experience required
• Recent Epic EMR experience required (checkoff class will be required upon start)
• Must reside at least 40 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills with demonstrated ability to manage change in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with PIV insertion, sepsis care protocols, and respiratory support modalities
• Collaborative, professional demeanor with strong interpersonal communication skills
