Senior Manager, Internal Communications Full Time Los Angeles, CA, US Salary Range: $116,781.00 To $175,172.00 Annually The California Endowment is seeking a Senior Manager, Internal Communications for the Communications department. This hybrid role will report a minimum of 2 days in our Los Angeles office. We expect to accept applications until September 11, 2026. Position Summary: The Senior Manager, Internal Communications is responsible for the day-to-day management of The Endowment’s internal communications function, ensuring staff are informed, connected, engaged, and aligned around our mission, culture, strategic priorities, and organizational direction. This role develops and implements integrated internal communications strategies that strengthen transparency, foster engagement, support organizational change, and promote a shared understanding of enterprise goals and priorities. Working across the enterprise, the Senior Manager, Internal Communications serves as a trusted partner in communicating organizational priorities, leadership messages, key initiatives, and change efforts. The role oversees internal editorial planning, employee engagement communications, leadership communications support, internal events, staff listening efforts, and organizational learning and knowledge-sharing practices. This position reports to the Director, Institutional Communications, playing a critical role in strengthening organizational culture, supporting effective change management, and creating meaningful opportunities for staff connection, learning, feedback, and engagement. Position Accountabilities: Internal Communications Strategy & Staff Communications Develops and executes a comprehensive internal communications strategy that supports organizational priorities, values, and culture. Partners with leadership, People & Culture, and functions across The Endowment to identify communications needs and create consistent messaging. Leads the ongoing evolution and optimization of the intranet, centering organizational needs, team collaboration, knowledge sharing, and user experience. Ensures staff receive timely, accurate, and relevant information that supports organizational alignment and engagement. Establishes communication approaches that promote transparency, understanding, and trust across the organization. Ensures communications reflect tce+ principles and are grounded in racial equity and trust-based philanthropy. Manages external vendors and consultants supporting internal communications initiatives, as needed. Leadership Communications & Executive Messaging Provides communications support to CEO and leadership team in communicating organizational priorities, decisions, and strategic direction. Drafts and manages executive messaging, organizational announcements, leadership updates, presentations, talking points, and staff-facing communications. Ensures leadership communications are coordinated, consistent, and aligned with enterprise goals and messaging. Internal Editorial Planning & Communications Channels Leads internal editorial planning processes to ensure coordinated and strategic communications across the organization. Develops and manages all internal communications platforms (intranet, newsletters, staff meetings, digital signage, etc.) and maintains an editorial calendar. Establishes standards and processes to ensure consistency of tone, brand, and accessibility across communications channels. Implements best practices for virtual and hybrid communications to reach diverse employee audiences. Continuously evaluates and enhances internal communications channels and tools to meet evolving staff needs. Change Management Communications & Organizational Alignment Develops and implements communication strategies and protocols that support organizational change initiatives, strategic plan efforts, operational improvements, and cultural transformation. Partners with leaders and project teams to translate complex initiatives into clear and actionable staff communications. Anticipates communication needs and develops messaging approaches that support understanding, engagement, and adoption of change. Helps ensure staff understand how enterprise initiatives connect to organizational priorities and individual roles. Supports organizational resilience by fostering clear, proactive, and thoughtful communications during periods of transition. Employee Engagement & Culture Partners with People & Culture and other departments to strengthen employee engagement, recognition, and belonging through thoughtful communication campaigns and enterprise-wide events. Creates communication plans that amplify organizational values, equity commitments, and culture-building initiatives. Facilitates opportunities for two-way communication, feedback loops, and dialogue between leadership and staff. Identifies innovative approaches to increase participation, engagement, and staff understanding of organizational priorities. Organizational Learning, Knowledge Sharing & Staff Listening Develops communications strategies that support organizational learning, knowledge sharing, and cross-department collaboration. Creates systems and processes that improve knowledge management and help staff access, understand, and share organizational information, insights, and lessons learned. Leads staff listening efforts, including surveys, feedback mechanisms, focus groups, and other engagement activities. Analyzes staff feedback and communication effectiveness data to identify opportunities for improvement and inform leadership decision-making. Partners with leaders and departments to close feedback loops and communicate actions taken in response to staff input. Establishes metrics and feedback mechanisms to measure effectiveness of communications and adjusts strategy accordingly. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Strong design sensibility; proficiency with tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar. Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze engagement metrics. Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in internal communications, employee engagement, organizational infrastructure, or related field. A bachelor’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, communications or related field is equivalent to 4 years of relevant experience. Experience developing and implementing communication strategies across multiple channels. Experience with mid-sized organizations (100+ employees), non-profits, or mission-driven sectors. Salary Range: Target Hiring Range: $116,781-$145,976 Full Salary Range: $116,781-$175,172 Compensation offers are determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience, market data, and internal equity. Most offers fall within the target hiring range, with the full salary range reserved to support growth and progression over time in the role.
