About the role Avalere’s policy practice is seeking a Principal focused on Medicare, Medicaid, and drug pricing policy. The role involves generating creative solutions to complex problems, thriving in a fast‑paced environment, and collaborating with knowledgeable colleagues. What you’ll do Serve as a key subject matter expert on Medicare, Medicaid, and drug pricing policy issues impacting the pharmaceutical/biotech, health insurance, pharmacy, and PBM industries. Generate both strategic and tactical recommendations for clients that are responsive to their policy and business needs. Oversee multiple complex engagements simultaneously, from proposal development through delivery, partnering with clients on project scope and assembling cross‑functional teams. Contribute to practice goal achievement around sales, revenue, and project management. Create and execute business development plans. Participate in strategic and planning discussions across the firm to develop new business. Supervise, train and mentor staff members within the practice and across the firm. Generate thought‑leadership content that raises the profile of your expertise and the practice’s capabilities. Education Requirements A degree in health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, public administration, economics, business administration, or a related discipline. Skill Requirements Significant experience analyzing policy proposals, legislation, and/or regulation and conveying findings to clients and the public. Advanced understanding of policy issues impacting the healthcare sector, business dynamics in the marketplace, and the interplay between federal and state policy. Experience overseeing and supervising the work of staff members. Proven situational leadership skills and the ability to motivate individuals across all levels. Exemplary interpersonal skills that translate into positive relationships with colleagues and clients. Commitment to working in a team environment with an emphasis on collaboration and maintaining positive relationships. Outstanding problem‑solving and analytic skills with the ability to interpret and communicate complex analytic project methodologies and findings internally and to clients. Thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and intellectually stimulating environment. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word. Experience Requirements 10+ years of relevant work experience, which could include employment by a biotech or health insurance company, relevant trade group, advocacy organization, Capitol Hill, the executive branch, or a professional advisory services firm. Prior experience in the financial services industry or a professional services firm focusing on the healthcare industry. Deep knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid policy, including Medicare Part D, the Inflation Reduction Act, and other key drug pricing reform policies. Prior project management experience. Solid communication skills (written and verbal) including the ability to concisely explain complicated concepts to executives.
