High School Assistant Principal of Student Culture (26-27 SY)

Capital City is looking for innovative, experienced, and passionate High School Assistant Principal of Student Culture for the school year 2026-2027. Assistant Principal (AP) of Student Culture is a visionary leader responsible for fostering a joyful, safe, and inclusive school environment. You will lead the middle school’s efforts to build a restorative and equitable school culture that honors student voice and promotes social-emotional growth. This isn't just about "discipline" — it's about building a community where students feel they belong. This is a 12-month position which is exempt and therefore not eligible for overtime pay under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Cultural Leadership & Vision Define and uphold the school’s core values, ensuring they are lived out daily by students and staff. Lead the implementation of Restorative Justice (RJ) practices and Tier 1, 2, and 3 behavioral supports. Collaborate with the SEL Coordinator and Restorative Justice Coordinator to oversee the Crew (Advisory) program, ensuring it serves as the heartbeat of student culture and character development. Student Support & Accountability Manage school-wide systems for behavior management, ensuring responses are equitable, consistent, and data-driven. Partner with the Student Support Team (SST) to design individualized intervention plans for students with significant social-emotional needs. Lead the high school’s "Culture Team", including the SEL Coordinator, and counselors, to respond to student incidents with a focus on reflection and repair. Lead and coordinate bullying investigations. Operations & School Management Daily Oversight: Manage school-wide systems including arrival/dismissal, manage sub coverage, lunchroom procedures, and emergency drills. Scheduling: Assist in the development of master schedules that maximize instructional time and teacher collaboration. Compliance: Ensure adherence to school policies, OSSE regulations, and special education (IEP/504) requirements. Execute and serve as Lead Administrator for summer programming for incoming students to Capital City. Manage and execute all paperwork and actions related to student discipline including bullying investigations in our campus management system in a timely manner. Coaching & Staff Development Provide regular coaching to teachers on classroom management, relationship building, and trauma-informed instruction. Lead professional development sessions centered on equity, anti-racism, and social-emotional learning (SEL). Monitor school climate data (attendance, suspension rates, survey data) to identify trends and pivot strategies accordingly. Evaluate a caseload of educators. Family & Community Engagement Build strong, trusting relationships with families as partners in their children’s development. Facilitate family meetings regarding student behavior and growth, ensuring a welcoming and collaborative atmosphere. Lead Student Government and organize other school-wide community meetings, celebrations, and town halls that showcase student achievement and talent. Requirements Education: Master’s degree in Education, School Leadership, or a related field (strongly preferred). Experience: At least 3–5 years of successful lead teaching experience in a middle school setting; previous experience in school leadership (Assistant Principal, Dean, Dept. Head, etc.) is highly valued. Mindset: A deep commitment to social justice and anti-bias education . You must believe in restorative practices over punitive ones. Communication: Exceptional emotional intelligence and the ability to navigate difficult conversations with grace and clarity. Language: Bilingual proficiency (Spanish/English) is a significant plus. In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a criminal background check.
