Events & Communication Manager (6292U) – BCNM At the University of California, Berkeley, the Berkeley Center for New Media (BCNM) is an interdisciplinary research center that studies and shapes media transition and emergence from diverse perspectives. BCNM conducts research, produces lectures and symposia, awards fellowships, hosts visiting scholars, and offers graduate and undergraduate programs. More than 100 faculty and students from multiple departments are represented by BCNM. Application Review Date First review date: July 1, 2026 – Open until filled. Responsibilities Lead the planning, organization, and execution of events and programs serving campus audiences and the public, supporting the Director and Associate Director in aligning events with BCNM strategy. Serve as main point of contact for speakers and guests, managing travel, accommodations, audio‑visual arrangements, catering, and hotel logistics; oversee budgets and payments. Create and implement communication plans, manage print collateral, direct volunteers, and oversee event‑day operations; ensure video recording, captioning services, and ADA compliance. Maintain program‑related web content, manage newsletters, outreach, press releases, and social media strategy in partnership with BCNM student workers. Produce annual reports and brochures highlighting student programs, faculty research, funding opportunities, and scholarships. Manage and maintain BCNM spaces on campus, including equipment ordering, supply procurement, and IT issue resolution. Act as liaison for BCNM students, supporting their event ideas, space access, and coordinating the BCNM Commons and art exhibitions; supervise three to four undergraduate work‑study assistants. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience. Advanced event‑management skills with proven ability to lead complex public events, manage technical production, venue logistics, and on‑site operations. Strategic communication expertise in multi‑channel publicity, newsletters, social media, and press releases. Financial management proficiency, including budgeting, payments, procurement, and travel reimbursements in line with University policies. Digital literacy and web‑management skills, capable of maintaining web content and overseeing digital materials. Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact with high‑profile speakers, guests, faculty, and students across disciplines. Strategic alignment ability to support executive leadership in conceiving dynamic programming that fits broader organizational goals. Operational and facilities management knowledge, including campus space coordination, art exhibition oversight, and IT collaboration. Leadership and supervisory ability to manage and mentor undergraduate work‑study assistants. Knowledge of accessibility and compliance requirements (video captioning, ADA, inclusive accommodations). Strong organizational and project‑management skills for handling multiple competing priorities. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $74,700 to $103,800 yearly ($6,225.00 to $8,650.00 monthly).
