Ammonia Refrigeration Technician - 2nd Shift

The Refrigeration Technician operates, maintains, and troubleshoots industrial ammonia refrigeration and facility systems. This role plays a critical part in cold-storage and processing operations by ensuring continuous system performance, maintaining product temperature control, and preventing operational downtime.

Responsibilities

System Operation & Preventative Maintenance

• Perform routine preventive maintenance (PM), daily system checks, and predictive maintenance on industrial refrigeration equipment (compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, vessels, and valves).
• Monitor and maintain facility HVAC units, air compressors, boilers, water treatment systems, and auxiliary utilities.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues on refrigeration and utility systems.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Maintain ammonia refrigeration systems in strict compliance with OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) and EPA Risk Management Plan (RMP) standards.
• Participate in emergency response teams (HAZMAT) for potential chemical or refrigerant leaks, following facility emergency procedures.
• Ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and food safety requirements (SQF/HACCP).

Documentation & Troubleshooting

• Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document work orders, repairs, parts used, and daily logs.
• Interpret mechanical drawings, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and electrical schematics.
• Collaborate with maintenance, sanitation, and production leadership to resolve equipment downtime quickly.

The essential functions of this role include:

• working in a smoke free environment
• wearing steel toe shoes
• manual lifting up to 50lbs
• standing for 8 hours at one time
• working up to 5 hrs of overtime per week
