School Psychologist
The SEED Public Charter School of Washington DC
Job Description
Job Description
Description:
About The SEED School of Washington, D.C.
The SEED Foundation ( was created in 1997 to establish college-preparatory urban boarding schools that prepare secondary students, both academically and socially, for success in college and beyond. In 1998, the Foundation opened The SEED Public Charter School of Washington, D.C. – the nation’s first public college preparatory boarding school. The school currently serves 250 students in grades 9-12. In 2015, 100% of SEED’s seniors were accepted to a four-year college or university.
All SEED students live on campus from Sunday evening through Friday afternoon when they return home for the weekend. The dormitories are organized into small “houses” of an average of 15-18 students per resident advisor for afternoon and evening routines such as academic study hall, house meetings, SPARKS, and other structured activities. We provide a safe and caring 24-hour boarding experience. Our relationship with parents/guardians is essential to the success of their scholar while at SEED.
About The SEED Network:
SEED is the pioneering national network of public, college-preparatory boarding schools, offering a unique 24-hour, 5-day per week learning environment. Our tuition-free schools, the first of their kind in the U.S., are intentionally designed to serve traditionally underserved students. Supported by The SEED Foundation, we operate in Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Miami, and Los Angeles. The Foundation's College Transition & Success (CTS) team provides comprehensive support to SEED graduates from junior year through college graduation. SEED's success has gained recognition from media outlets like 60 Minutes and The New York Times, and former President Obama has lauded it as "a true success story." Learn more at
Position Overview
The School Psychologist reports to the Senior Director of Student Support Services and serves as a critical member of SEED’s Student Support Services team, advancing a comprehensive, integrated approach to student success through a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). This role blends clinical expertise, assessment, and strategic consultation to support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
Operating within a 24/5 boarding school model, the School Psychologist works across both general education and special education populations, with a primary focus on evaluation, complex case analysis, and Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention design. In partnership with the MTSS Director, social workers, and school leadership, the School Psychologist ensures that supports are data-driven, equitable, and responsive to the diverse and evolving needs of all students.
This role moves beyond a traditional compliance-driven model and functions as a systems-level contributor, strengthening the school’s ability to proactively support students and remove barriers to learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Psychological Assessment & Special Education Support
- Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations and re-evaluations in alignment with IDEA and applicable regulations
- Prepare clear, thorough, and accessible evaluation reports for multidisciplinary teams and families
- Participate in IEP meetings to interpret data, inform eligibility, and support development of meaningful goals and services
- Ensure timely and compliant completion of all evaluation-related documentation
MTSS Leadership & Systems Support
- Partner with the MTSS Director to support the design, implementation, and monitoring of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions
- Contribute to data-based decision-making through analysis of student progress, trends, and intervention effectiveness
- Participate in multidisciplinary problem-solving structures (e.g., KidTalk, MTSS meetings) to support student identification and intervention planning
- Support the development of systems that strengthen early identification and reduce over-reliance on special education referrals
Behavioral & Clinical Expertise
- Lead or support Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)
- Provide consultation on complex behavioral, emotional, and learning needs across both general and special education settings
- Conduct risk assessments (e.g., suicide/homicide ideation) and contribute to safety planning and re-entry supports
- Support crisis response efforts as part of a shared team model
Targeted Student Support (Tier 2 & Tier 3)
- Provide targeted, short-term counseling and intervention for students with complex or high-need profiles
- Support progress monitoring and adjustment of interventions for Tier 2 and Tier 3 students
- Maintain a balanced caseload that includes both special education and select general education students based on level of need
Consultation & Capacity Building
- Provide ongoing consultation to teachers, staff, and leaders on:
- Student behavior and regulation
- Learning differences and cognitive development
- Effective classroom-based interventions
- Collaborate with social workers to ensure alignment of therapeutic supports and intervention strategies
- Contribute to staff professional development focused on behavior, SEL, and inclusive practices
Collaboration Across SEED’s 24/5 Model
- Partner with academic and Student Life teams to ensure continuity of care across the school day and residential program
- Support communication and alignment around student needs, interventions, and progress
- Contribute to a cohesive, whole-child approach to student support
Caseload Expectations
The School Psychologist maintains a balanced and strategic caseload that includes:
- Primary responsibility for special education evaluations and compliance
- Active support of Tier 2 and Tier 3 students across both GenEd and SPED
- Shared responsibility for high-need (Tier 3) students across the clinical team
Required
· Master’s degree or higher in School Psychology or related field.
· Valid Credential in School Psychology.
· Minimum of three years of experience as a School Psychologist.
· Knowledge of DC special education laws and IEP compliance requirements.
· Demonstrated ability to provide effective counseling, assessment, and consultation services.
· Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
· Commitment to SEED's mission, values, and belief that all students can succeed in college and beyond.
Preferred
· Experience working in an urban or boarding school setting.
· Experience with students with learning differences, ADHD, and trauma backgrounds.
· Knowledge of evidence-based interventions and restorative practices.
· Ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams and work flexible hours as part of a 24-hour school model.
