Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Job Description

Job Summary:
The Med Surg RN is responsible for providing compassionate, high-quality inpatient care to patients in the Medical Surgical Department, ensuring safe assessments, interventions, and education. This role requires collaboration with healthcare providers to promote patient recovery and prevent readmissions.

Responsibilities:

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, and deliver nursing interventions within the RN scope of practice.
• Monitor patient conditions, identify changes, and communicate abnormal findings to providers for prompt action.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and other treatments accurately and efficiently.
• Document all assessments, procedures, and patient interactions using Cerner EHR and Care Compass tools.
• Educate patients and families on disease processes, treatments, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
• Support interdisciplinary teamwork, mentor staff, and ensure compliance with safety and infection prevention standards.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of Med Surg or ED nursing experience required, with prior traveler experience preferred.
• Current Colorado or Compact RN license and valid AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
• Cerner EHR/EMR familiarity and basic computer skills required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform age-specific nursing care and cardiac monitoring.
• Strong communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills essential.
