Job PurposeThe HVAC Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and support of building automation and HVAC control systems. This role focuses on ensuring HVAC systems operate efficiently, reliably, and in accordance with design intent. The technician works independently and in coordination with HVAC service teams, controls vendors, and facility stakeholders to maintain system performance, resolve control-related issues, and support long-term operational stability.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesControls System Service and MaintenancePerform preventive maintenance and scheduled service on HVAC control systems and building automation systemsInspect controllers, sensors, actuators, network wiring, and control panels for proper operationVerify system performance, sequences of operation, and communication integrityIdentify control-related deficiencies and document findings clearlyTroubleshooting and DiagnosticsDiagnose control system faults including communication issues, sensor failures, actuator malfunctions, and programming-related problemsSupport troubleshooting of HVAC equipment by verifying control logic and system commandsIsolate controls issues from mechanical or electrical faults and communicate findings effectivelyCoordinate with controls manufacturers or vendors when proprietary systems require escalationInstallation and ConfigurationAssist with installation of control devices, sensors, actuators, and field wiringVerify proper termination, addressing, and labeling of control componentsSupport controller replacement and point-to-point verificationLoad or assist with approved control programs under supervision or direction when applicableCoordination and SupportWork closely with HVAC service technicians to resolve system-level issuesSupport Senior Controls Technicians or Controls Engineers as assignedCoordinate with electricians and other trades to ensure proper execution of controls-related workCommunicate clearly with supervisors, dispatch, and project management teamsDocumentation and ReportingAccurately document service activities, findings, and corrective actionsRecord control points, deficiencies, and operational notes using company systemsCapture photos, screenshots, and trend data when requiredMaintain clear and organized documentation for future reference and follow-upSafety and Professional StandardsFollow all company safety policies and site-specific requirementsAdhere to electrical safety standards and lockout tagout proceduresMaintain a professional appearance and conduct when representing the companyEnsure work areas and control panels are left clean, secure, and properly labeledDisclaimerThe above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed.
