APRN/PA - Instr. I - Endocrinology

Job Summary Under general supervision and in accordance with standardized procedures, this position is responsible for performing physical examinations and treating common episodic and chronic health care problems, counseling patients and families, monitoring patient progress, assisting with medical research projects. Works in collaboration with other health care team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient, including diabetes management and ongoing care. Responsibilities Manages the health care of select patient populations through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. Prescriptive responsibilities are reviewed by the collaborative physician. Coordinates the care of select patient populations, ensuring promotion of health and wellness through education of patients and families, coordination of services, and placing referrals. Develops treatment plans and treats patients with acute problems, illnesses, and minor injuries following a predetermined protocol in a collaborative practice agreement with a physician. Instructs and counsels patients, involving patients in informed decision‑making regarding illness, procedures, treatment regimens, and activities of daily living, considering their physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs. Provides referral of patients needing diabetes education—including pump and sensor training—to the appropriate individuals at the USF Diabetes Center. Works in an outpatient setting, acting as a member of the interdisciplinary team that facilitates the continuum of care and education of patients with diabetes. Participates in professional development, lifelong learning, service education programs, and professional associations. Assesses development needs of staff and develops and delivers appropriate educational programs to meet staff needs. Maintains compliance with established policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental, infection control, and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies. May participate in medical research projects, follow treatment protocols, screen and refer patients for research participation, assist in data collection, attend research meetings, and follow up with patients. Performs other duties as assigned. Responsible to a Chair or other higher‑level administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, service, and related activities; may be responsible for research and/or academic advising and related activities; may represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and statewide committees. Qualifications Minimum – Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience, and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor. Additional Minimum – Graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64; or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64. Candidates must be Board Certified/Board Eligible in Certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64. Preferred – Experience in Diabetes mellitus (DM), DM technologies, and obesity management. This position may be subject to a Level 1 or Level 2 criminal background check.
