ASL Interpreter (Part-time)

Title: ASL Interpreter (Part-time) Agency: Virginia Peninsula Community College Location: Multiple Locations FLSA: Nonexempt Hiring Range: $40.00-$60.00 Full Time or Part Time: Part Time Job Description Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York. Provide effective interpreting and transliterating services for deaf and hard of hearing people which includes any oral communication during in-person and virtual classroom instruction (labs included), scheduled instructor appointments, scheduled tutoring sessions, any student services appointments, and student services events, etc. Develop partnerships within classroom and educate community partners, agencies, and organizations regarding interpreter services. *This is a REMOTE position. The selected candidate must be available (Monday-Friday) to work flexible daytime and/or evening hours and occasional weekends * Minimum Qualifications Relevant work-related experience. Demonstrated proficiency in ASL. Demonstrated proficiency using English grammar. Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III or Must have either Level III, Registry of Interpreters or National Interpreter Certification Certifications. (Examples include: NIC Master, NIC Advanced, NIC, NAD5, CSC, CI/CT, CDI, RSC, MCSC, OTC CI or CT, TSC4 IC/TC, NAD 4, TSC3, CS-IV, I-IV, T-IV, T-III/I-III, IC or TC, TSC:2, CS-III, I-III, T-III, T-II/I-II, NAD 3, TSC:1, CS-II, I-II, T-II.) Must be able to pass a background check. Must have a valid driver's license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire. Must be available (Monday-Friday) to work flexible daytime and/or evening hours and occasional weekends at any VPCC campuses and all extension centers or events. Must be available to work during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Knowledge Comprehensive knowledge of deaf culture and language. Working knowledge of FERPA. Skills Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with individuals at all levels. Attention to detail with a focus on thoroughness and quality. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must demonstrate excellent active listening skills. Ability to Work independently and in a team environment. Interpret without any additions, omissions or other factors that alter the intended meaning of the message from the speaker. Focus on a single source in the presence of distractions. Ability to maintain confidential information. Maintain accurate record keeping. Communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
