OTE: $110,500–$141,500 annually
Compensation: $25–$32 per hour, based on experience
Schedule : Monday–Saturday | 60–80 Hours Per Week

About the Position

Diamond A is seeking an experienced Field Heavy Equipment Operator to join our West Texas construction team. This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipment on roadway, earthwork, utility, paving, vegetation control, land clearing, and other heavy construction projects.

This is a demanding construction schedule. Candidates must be available to work Monday through Saturday and approximately 60–80 hours per week, depending on project needs.

We are looking for someone who knows equipment, understands the importance of working safely around an active construction site, and is willing to pitch in wherever needed to keep the job moving.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

• Safely operate heavy construction equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, backhoes, skid steers, motor graders, mulchers, rock mulchers, rock crushers, and other equipment as assigned.
• Operate mulchers and related equipment for vegetation control, right-of-way clearing, brush removal, and land clearing.
• Operate rock crushers and rock-processing equipment safely and efficiently as required by the project.
• Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, loading, site preparation, vegetation control, land clearing, mulching, rock crushing, and material-moving operations.
• Perform work associated with roadway/highway construction, earthwork, paving, underground utilities, vegetation management, and related heavy construction projects.
• Read grade stakes and follow project plans, specifications, and supervisor instructions.
• Perform daily pre-operation and equipment safety inspections.
• Recognize equipment problems and immediately report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and minor equipment repairs when within the operator’s ability.
• Maintain equipment in clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Safely work around underground utilities, moving equipment, trucks, traffic, and other construction personnel.
• Follow company, OSHA, DOT, project-specific, and jobsite safety requirements.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, truck drivers, laborers, mechanics, and other equipment operators.
• Assist with general construction and jobsite duties when needed.
• Maintain dependable attendance and report to assigned jobsites on time.
• Work a Monday–Saturday schedule, approximately 60–80 hours per week, based on project demands.

Required Qualifications:

• Previous experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Ability to safely operate one or more types of heavy equipment used in earthwork, roadway, utility, vegetation control, land clearing, or heavy civil construction.
• Knowledge of basic equipment inspections and safe operating procedures.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work safely and productively as part of a construction crew.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability and willingness to work Monday through Saturday and approximately 60–80 hours per week.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
• Ability to pass required background screening, including a federal background check.
• Ability to pass required drug screening.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to Have:

• Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform minor repairs.
• Experience operating multiple types of heavy equipment.
• Experience operating mulchers for vegetation control and land clearing.
• Experience operating rock crushers or similar rock-processing equipment.
• Experience in highway/road construction, earthwork, land clearing, vegetation control, underground utilities, paving, or heavy civil construction.
• Class A CDL.
• Experience working on municipal, state, or federal construction projects.

Physical & Work Requirements:

• Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools and materials as required.
• Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, and other West Texas conditions.
• Ability to safely work around moving equipment, roadway traffic, uneven terrain, noise, and active construction operations.
• Ability to work extended shifts and 60–80 hour workweeks, Monday through Saturday, as required by project schedules.
