Production Manager – Window & Door Replacement

Design Windows and Doors is seeking an experienced Production Manager to oversee the production and installation process for residential window and door replacement projects.

This is a hands-on operations leadership position responsible for moving projects from the point of sale through ordering, product receipt, material staging, scheduling, installation, quality control, and final completion. The Production Manager will coordinate closely with Sales, Customer Service, vendors, warehouse personnel, installation crews, and company leadership to ensure projects are completed efficiently, accurately, on schedule, and according to company standards.

The ideal candidate understands the window and door replacement industry and has an established background in production, project coordination, operations, or installation management. Experience managing the production process for replacement windows and doors is highly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Project Coordination

• Manage the production lifecycle of residential window and door replacement projects from sold job through installation and completion.
• Review sold projects to verify measurements, product specifications, scope of work, and installation requirements.
• Coordinate window and door orders with manufacturers and vendors.
• Track product orders, delivery schedules, backorders, damaged products, shortages, and other issues that could affect production or installation schedules.
• Monitor projects throughout the production process and proactively resolve issues before they cause installation delays.
• Maintain accurate production schedules and coordinate installation dates based on product availability, crew capacity, and project requirements.
• Ensure jobs are fully prepared before they are released to installation crews.
• Monitor production timelines and operational KPIs.

Window & Door Product Knowledge

• Review product specifications, measurements, options, hardware, accessories, and other project requirements for accuracy.
• Understand the components and installation requirements of residential windows and doors.
• Identify potential product, measurement, ordering, or installation issues before they impact the customer or installation crew.
• Work with vendors and manufacturers to resolve product questions, order discrepancies, damaged products, and replacement needs.
• Maintain current knowledge of the company's window and door product offerings.

Installation & Field Operations

• Lead, manage, and hold installation crews accountable for productivity, workmanship, professionalism, safety, and company standards.
• Schedule and coordinate installation crews to maximize labor utilization and project efficiency.
• Conduct regular job-site visits and field inspections to monitor quality, safety, project progress, and customer satisfaction.
• Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to installation teams.
• Resolve field and installation issues quickly and effectively.
• Assist with installations and field services as needed.
• Communicate job requirements, special instructions, and project changes to installation crews.

Measurements & Quality Control

• Conduct or verify accurate field measurements for windows and doors.
• Verify site conditions and installation requirements.
• Document measurements, specifications, photographs, and job-site information.
• Identify potential production or installation issues before products are ordered or installed.
• Inspect products and completed installations for quality, accuracy, workmanship, and completeness.
• Track recurring quality issues and implement corrective actions to reduce rework, waste, and callbacks.

Warehouse & Materials

• Manage daily warehouse operations, organization, and material flow.
• Coordinate receiving, inspection, staging, loading, and distribution of window and door products and installation materials.
• Maintain accurate inventory levels and inventory records.
• Ensure products and materials are properly staged and ready for scheduled installations.
• Conduct inventory audits and implement controls to reduce waste, loss, shortages, and unnecessary material runs.
• Ensure warehouse operations are safe, organized, and efficient.

Fleet & Equipment Management

• Oversee company fleet operations, including vehicle maintenance, inspections, cleanliness, registration compliance, and fuel management.
• Monitor vehicle and equipment usage.
• Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Ensure installation crews properly maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment.

Change Orders & Customer Experience

• Build customer trust and identify opportunities for additional products, upgrades, services, or change orders during field visits.
• Support the company's goal of maintaining an average 10% change-order rate.
• Own the customer experience throughout the production and installation process.
• Work with Sales and Customer Service to ensure customers receive accurate and timely project information.
• Address production or installation concerns professionally and promptly.
• Support company goals for customer satisfaction and positive reviews.

Cost & Operational Management

• Monitor labor efficiency, material usage, job costs, production timelines, and operational KPIs.
• Maintain accurate job costing and production records.
• Monitor materials and labor against established project budgets.
• Develop and implement processes that improve efficiency, accountability, quality, and profitability.
• Identify production bottlenecks and recommend solutions.
• Maintain accurate operational reports and documentation.
• Work to achieve company goals of having at least 80% of projects meet or beat established materials and labor budgets.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in production management, operations management, project management, or installation management within the window and door or residential home improvement industry .
• Strong understanding of the residential window and door replacement process.
• Experience coordinating projects from sale through ordering, product receipt, scheduling, and installation.
• Experience managing installation crews and field operations.
• Knowledge of window and door products, measurements, specifications, and installation requirements.
• Experience working with manufacturers, vendors, warehouses, or building-product suppliers.
• Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, schedules, crews, and competing priorities.
• Experience with job costing, labor efficiency, budgets, or production KPIs preferred.
• Proficiency in relevant scheduling, inventory, project management, and computer software applications.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Willingness to work in the field and assist with installations or services when needed.

What We're Looking For

The successful Production Manager will be an organized, hands-on operations leader who understands what happens between the time a customer signs a contract and the installation crew completes the project.

This person should be able to look at a sold window or door project, identify what needs to happen next, coordinate the necessary products and materials, monitor the production timeline, prepare the installation crew, anticipate potential problems, and take ownership of getting the project successfully completed.

We are looking for someone who understands window and door replacement production , not necessarily someone who has manufactured windows or doors. Experience with installation is important because it allows the Production Manager to recognize field issues, support installers, and ensure projects are properly prepared for installation.
