The Concrete Superintendent will be responsible for overseeing commercial concrete projects from initial site preparation through final completion.

The ideal candidate has extensive field experience in commercial concrete construction, grading, elevations, blueprint interpretation, forming, reinforcement, placement, finishing, and quality control.

This individual must be comfortable managing multiple crews and projects, coordinating equipment and materials, holding employees accountable, and working closely with project managers and company leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Concrete Construction & Technical Expertise

• Read, interpret, and execute commercial construction blueprints, site plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.
• Understand site grading, drainage, elevations, slopes, benchmarks, and proper subgrade preparation.
• Establish and verify grades, elevations, layout, and concrete thickness using appropriate surveying and leveling equipment.
• Oversee excavation, subgrade preparation, aggregate base installation, compaction, forming, reinforcement, pouring, finishing, curing, and saw cutting.
• Manage construction of commercial parking lots, concrete paving, sidewalks, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, approaches, loading areas, and other large-scale flatwork.
• Understand concrete mix designs, placement requirements, reinforcement, control joints, expansion joints, and proper curing practices.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, ADA requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
• Identify drainage, grading, layout, soil, forming, and workmanship issues before they result in costly rework.
• Troubleshoot field conditions and implement practical, effective corrective actions.

Leadership & Crew Management

• Lead, supervise, train, and develop concrete foremen and field employees.
• Establish clear daily production goals and expectations.
• Hold employees accountable for quality, safety, productivity, attendance, and performance.
• Identify poor workmanship, inefficient practices, and performance problems and take immediate corrective action.
• Develop crew leaders and strengthen the technical capabilities of the concrete division.
• Foster a professional, respectful, safety-focused, and results-driven work environment.
• Lead by example and maintain a hands-on presence in the field.

Project Execution & Operations

• Plan and coordinate labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and concrete deliveries.
• Manage multiple commercial projects while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.
• Review project drawings, specifications, quantities, and site conditions before beginning work.
• Conduct pre-pour inspections and verify readiness before concrete placement.
• Coordinate concrete placement logistics, finishing operations, and weather-related decisions.
• Monitor daily production, labor hours, material usage, and equipment efficiency.
• Identify scheduling conflicts, material shortages, and project risks early.
• Work closely with project managers to maintain budgets, production targets, and customer expectations.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, production records, and project documentation.
• Ensure punch-list items and deficiencies are addressed promptly.

Quality Control & Problem Solving

• Inspect work at every stage of construction rather than waiting until completion.
• Recognize improper grades, inadequate compaction, drainage problems, incorrect reinforcement, and other construction deficiencies.
• Determine the root cause of field problems and implement corrective solutions.
• Prevent unnecessary demolition, rework, warranty claims, and project delays.
• Maintain high standards for workmanship, site organization, and customer satisfaction.
• Take ownership of project outcomes and follow through until issues are resolved.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of commercial concrete construction experience , including substantial field leadership experience.

• At least 3 years in a superintendent, general foreman, or comparable supervisory role.
• Demonstrated experience managing large commercial concrete projects and multiple crews.
• Strong working knowledge of grading, elevations, drainage, layout, and subgrade preparation.
• Ability to independently read and interpret construction blueprints and specifications.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial flatwork, concrete paving, curb and gutter, and ADA-compliant concrete construction.
• Experience coordinating concrete pours, manpower, equipment, and material deliveries.
• Strong understanding of concrete quality control, jobsite safety, and construction sequencing.
• Proven ability to identify construction issues, troubleshoot problems, and implement corrective action.
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to manage projects with minimal supervision and take full ownership of assigned responsibilities.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to local jobsites.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large commercial parking lots, industrial sites, municipal projects, or general contractor-led construction projects.
• Experience working with GPS, laser levels, rotary lasers, total stations, or other construction layout equipment.
• Knowledge of soil compaction, proof rolling, and subgrade stabilization.
• Familiarity with ACI standards, ADA requirements, and commercial concrete testing procedures.
• Experience developing foremen and managing multiple field crews.
• Experience with project scheduling, cost control, production tracking, and construction management software.
• OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
