Overview

The Nurse Practitioner plans and directs the delivery of primary health care and health education programs in collaboration with Methodist Healthcare Primary Care Associates (MHPCA). The incumbent provides care and health education for patients and their families and exemplifies the MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Responsibilities

• Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned center according to approved protocols and acceptable standards.
• Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director or collaborating physician.
• Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
• Collaborates with medical physicians and ancillary personnel to promote quality care for patients.
• Makes referrals as appropriate.
• Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.
• Understands, applies, and supports practice policies, procedures, goals and standards.
• Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow physicians, nurses and support staff.
• Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention.

Education and Formal Training

• Required: Master’s Degree in Advanced Practice Nursing.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Licenses and Certifications (Required)

• Registered Nurse – Tennessee Board of Nursing.
• Advanced Practice Nurse – Tennessee Board of Nursing.
• Family Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
• Basic Life Support – American Heart Association.

Licenses and Certifications (Preferred)

• Primary Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
• Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Emergency Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
• Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.
• Advanced Practice Nurse – Mississippi Board of Nursing.
• Family Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Adult Nurse Practitioner – American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in specialized nursing care.
• Current DEA number (if required by facility).

Supervision

There are no supervisory or lead responsibilities assigned to this position.

Physical Demands

• Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
• Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials.
• Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required.
• Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
• May require handling or administering narcotics.
• Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with others.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend.
• Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion, including gripping and squeezing.
• Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive coordinated motions.
• Good hand-eye coordination.
