Phlebotomist II

The Phlebotomist II is responsible for drawing and collecting blood samples from patients and preparing these specimens for testing, while adhering to quality standards to ensure compliance and accuracy in the specimen collection process.

Responsibilities

• Performs painless venipuncture and capillary puncture for the Coumadin clinic
• Identifies patient following protocol.
• Prepares samples for processing with correct label and bar code and inspects vials
• Reconciles outstanding sample report at day's end.
• Observes safety procedures and sample prep.
• Supports and guides in day-to-day activities.
• Cleans up old orders and combines orders in Copia, knows which tests are duplicates and which are necessary for measures.
• Demonstrates excellent guest service to internal team members and patients.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification or M.A. certification or certificate from a phlebotomy program.
• 2+ years of experience in Lab.
• Understands labeling/ID protocol, and knowledge of common lab tests, sample types, and vacutainers.
• Understands Biohazard, OSHA safety regulations for medical offices, and Universal precautions.
• Knowledge of test requirements and how to search Quest/LabCorp for esoteric tests.
• Ability to interpret miscellaneous order
• Ability to guide and observe new phlebotomists
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
