Job Description

The Pipefitter Brazing position involves assembling and brazing large diameter copper and steel piping systems for natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. This role demands extensive experience in heavy industrial brazing, with the ability to handle higher brazing temperatures and work with pipes ranging from 1 inch to 4 inch in diameter. Residential HVAC experience alone does not meet the qualifications for this role.

Available shifts:

1st shift: 5:30AM to 4PM Monday through Thursday (OT on Fridays)

2nd shift: 4PM to 3:30AM Monday through Thursday (OT on Fridays)

Weekend: 5AM to 5:30PM Friday through Sunday

Responsibilities

• Conduct torch brazing on piping systems ranging from 1-inch to 4-inch diameter.
• Braze copper to copper, copper to steel joints, and copper to brass for natural gas and industrial HVAC systems.
• Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems.
• Perform brazing operations on piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings.
• Complete joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal.
• Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically 600&degree;C900&degree;C (1,100&degree;F1,650&degree;F) depending on base metals and filler materials.
• Apply silver based and copper phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620&degree;C and 780&degree;C (1,150&degree;F1,435&degree;F).
• Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to ensure proper filler flow and prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion.
• Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup.
• Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating.
• Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically for proper flow, penetration, and structural integrity.
• Perform pressure and leak testing using approved methods such as nitrogen testing and soap solution.
• Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework following approved procedures.
• Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems.
• Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and PPE requirements.
• Record process parameters and report deviations from approved temperature ranges.
• Participate in quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience as a Pipefitter, TIG Welder, or Industrial Brazing Technician.
• Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing.
• Experience working with larger diameter pipes (1"4").
• Ability to braze copper to copper, copper to steel joints, and copper to brass.
• Experience achieving and controlling industrial brazing temperatures.
• Ability to perform brazing in all joint positions.
• Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and piping schematics.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes regarding pressure equipment and piping safety and compliance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Welding or brazing technical training preferred.
• Experience in manufacturing, pipefitting, or industrial assembly.

Work Environment

The position is based in a modern state-of-the-art facility in Mesa, Arizona with mandatory overtime on Fridays to meet production deadlines. The role requires physical abilities, including lifting up to 45 lbs, standing for the majority of the day, and good manual dexterity. Personal Protection Equipment is mandatory, and the dress code includes steel-toed shoes, jeans/work pants, and a T-shirt or polo.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gilbert, AZ.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $40.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
