Contract Technical Writer

Technical Writer – Hybrid Remote- Houston, TX 77094

PlanIT Group is hiring a Technical Writer – hybrid remote- Houston, TX 77094. Ideally you will be writing infrastructure, operational, application, and cybersecurity documentation. This is a 6 Months+ contract. We do offer PTO and medical benefits. Thank you for your time and consideration!

You will work onsite three days per week. Duties and responsibilities:

• Organize and write support documents, user guides, manuals (system, end-user), training guides, policies, standards, procedures, design specifications, Visio diagrams, operational/runbooks, test plans, business correspondence, etc.
• Assist with creating policies, standards, and procedures.
• Determine the needs of global end users of technical documentation.
• Use screenshots, drawings, diagrams, and charts that increase users' understanding.
• Select appropriate medium for message or audience, such as manuals or online training.
• Standardize content across platforms and media.
• Gather usability feedback from global end users, solution designers, and project team members.
• Revise existing documents as new issues, enhancements, or changes arise.
• Create operational instructions, how-to manuals, "frequently asked questions" pages to help technical support staff and end users.

Qualifications & experience:

• Five years of professional technical writing experience.
• Experience in creating business process flows, diagrams, etc.
• Web design experience helpful for online technical documentation.
• Proven working experience in technical writing of infrastructure, operational, application, and cybersecurity documentation.
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office software suite: Project, Visio, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Basic familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and software development.
• Understand Agile framework and traditional waterfall methodology.
• Bachelor's degree preferably in English or Communications.
