The Opportunity In this role, you will have the opportunity to: Perform field inspection, testing, design and construction coordination for electrical, instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater utility clients. Provide troubleshooting and field investigations to support client needs. Develop knowledge of client design standards and assist others in interpretation and application. Witness or perform instrument calibrations and loop checks. Inspect electrical equipment such as Motor Control Centers (MCCs), Switchboards, Panelboards and Industrial Control Panels of various voltages. Attend construction meetings. Review contractor electrical and instrumentation shop drawings. Coordinate communications between the client, design engineers and general contractors. Perform field verification of existing wiring and controls. Develop P&ID’s, control panel details, schematics, loop drawings, and computer system I/O lists. The Team Our Systems Design Group provides electrical, instrumentation, control and process mechanical solutions to all of Black & Veatch’s Water/Wastewater projects throughout North America. This position will be part of our talented and growing Electrical and I&C team in the West Regional Design Center in Phoenix, AZ. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required; candidates with experience or specialized training that demonstrates their ability to succeed are strongly encouraged to apply. 7+ years of experience in the design, installation and startup of electrical, instrumentation and control systems in an industrial automation environment. Experience in the water and wastewater industry is highly desirable. Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematic drawings and control panel wiring drawings. Experience reading and interpreting electrical single line diagrams and P&ID’s. Experience with AutoCAD is desirable but not required. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Microsoft 365 products. Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC, NFPA‑70) and NFPA‑70E standards for industrial and commercial installations. Experience performing electrical equipment inspections and data collection for Arc Flash and Shock Hazard Risk Assessments per NFPA 70E. Experience with Bluebeam Revu design and construction markup and collaboration software is desirable but not required. Experience in PLC and HMI programming is desirable but not required. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology or sciences preferred or any other degree, specialized training, or experience that makes the individual uniquely qualified to perform the job responsibilities. Minimum of 5 years of related work experience. Work Environment and Schedule This position requires work in a typical office environment, with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use, and may involve physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods of time.
