About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Med-Surg Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Strong knowledge in Med-Surg and Isolation precautions Description: This is a Med-Surg unit with 18 beds, all private rooms. The unit typically has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, with the potential for 1:4 during COVID surges. Staffing consists of 3-4 RNs per shift. Common diagnoses include various Infectious Diseases, Isolation cases, COVID, MRSA, and C-Diff. RNs are not required to titrate drips, but must manage common Med-Surg IV medications and antibiotics. A Charge Nurse is available 24/7 on the unit. Night charge staff will always take a full patient assignment. There are 2 CNA staff members on each shift. Respiratory Therapy equipment such as CPAP or BiPAP may be used, but there are no vents on this unit. RNs do not need to read or interpret telemetry strips; remote monitoring is performed by another department. Nurses work 12-hour shifts with a ½ hour lunch break. Self-scheduling is available for permanent staff, while travelers will be scheduled based on unit needs. Every other weekend is required for night shifts, which typically includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Holiday scheduling will depend on unit needs; travelers may be required to work holidays if permanent staff is not available. Travelers are the first to float to other Med-Surg units as necessary. Scrub color is royal blue. Jackets, if worn, must be actual scrub jackets in royal blue; hoodies or sweat jackets are not permitted. A one-day orientation on the electronic charting system will be provided, followed by one day on the floor with a preceptor. After the orientation, nurses will work independently. The client may cancel 2 shifts per 13-week assignment. Cancellation details will be discussed during the recruitment process. This role requires a BLS certification from AHA.
