Senior Auditor

If you’re going to leave a firm you’re perfectly happy at, the next one needs to give you a few good reasons. This one does. They’re an Indianapolis-based CPA firm of around 40 people, currently growing and moving into a bigger space. They’ve had opportunities to grow much faster through mergers, but that isn’t really what they want. They’d rather keep the feel of a smaller firm and grow by hiring good people. And right now, they particularly need experienced people in the middle of the team. As an Audit Senior, you’d work across a varied client base including construction, manufacturing, nonprofit and public sector organizations. You’ll be involved across engagements, working directly with clients and taking on more responsibility as you progress. It’s a good place for someone who wants to keep learning without feeling like they’re one of 100 Seniors all waiting for the same promotion. They do want people in the office and on site for certain engagements, particularly because they put a lot of emphasis on training. But they’re sensible about what flexibility actually means. Busy season is around 55 hours, and Saturdays can be worked from home. Outside of busy season, you’re generally back to a normal 40 hour week. If you’ve got children, a doctor’s appointment or just something you need to sort during the day, they’ll work around it. Nobody needs to make their dentist appointment sound like a national emergency. There are some good practical benefits too. They cover 90% of your parking costs, there’s a workout facility in the building and food available in the canteen. They’ve also introduced a 30-minute mental health break during the working day. Once you go beyond their annual hours threshold, extra hours can start converting into additional vacation time. Around 200 hours above that threshold works out at roughly another week of PTO. They’re looking for someone with solid public accounting audit experience who’s ready to step into a senior-level role. You don’t need to have your CPA already, although it’ll become important if you want to progress into management later on. You might be quite comfortable where you are. But if you could move somewhere that stays relatively small, gives you room to progress, and makes busy season a little easier to live with, it might be worth seeing what else is out there.
