Quality Assurance Inspector

QA Inspector III - Second ShiftBird-Johnson Propeller Company is seeking an experienced QA Technician Level III for second shift to support dimensional inspection and quality verification of marine propellers, components, and associated hardware. This role will focus heavily on CMM inspection using Zeiss equipment, as well as traditional metrology tools, to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal requirements. This role will also support day-to-day quality operations, including documentation, nonconformance review, and process improvement activities.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform advanced dimensional inspections using a Zeiss CMM, including setup, program execution, and basic program edits as needed.Review CMM and manual inspection results; investigate out-of-tolerance conditions and assist in root cause analysis.Perform advanced dimensional inspections using a Leica Laser Tracker.Set up and use a variety of precision measuring tools (micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, etc.).Document inspection results in accordance with company quality procedures, including FAI, in-process, and final inspection reports.Support nonconformance processes by providing accurate dimensional data and technical input with engineering support.Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams to resolve quality issues and drive continuous improvement.Support and/or perform NDT-related activities as required by procedures and qualifications (e.g., coordinating NDT, preparing parts and documentation for NDT, reviewing NDT reports for completeness and correctness).Maintain calibration status and proper care of inspection equipment, including CMM and related fixtures.Support internal and external audits by providing objective evidence of inspection and quality control activities.Review and overcheck quality paperwork and data packs as necessary to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.Communicate effectively with first- and second-shift personnel (quality, manufacturing, engineering) to ensure clear handoffs, accurate status updates, and timely escalation of issues.Work self-sufficiently on second shift, organizing daily workload, prioritizing inspections, and making sound decisions within established procedures and specifications along with operations input.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED required.5+ years of experience in quality inspection or metrology in a manufacturing environment, preferably heavy/precision machining or aerospace/defense.Demonstrated proficiency with Zeiss CMM equipment:Experience running Zeiss CMM programs (Calypso experience strongly preferred).Ability to set up parts, verify alignment strategies, and validate results.Strong blueprint reading and GD&T skills.Proficient with standard mechanical inspection tools and gages.Experience with electronic data collection, inspection records, and basic MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and documentation discipline.Strong communication skills:Clear written documentation of inspection results and nonconformance data.Effective verbal communication with operators, engineers, and supervisors across shifts.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively within a cross-functional team.Good written and verbal communication skills.Ability to access controlled items and/or articles (Requires U.S. citizenship).Preferred QualificationsPrior experience in marine, propulsion, or aerospace components.Experience supporting corrective action processes.Experience generating or modifying Zeiss CMM programs (Calypso programming).Laser Tracking/Scanning experience (Leica).Physical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to work in a shop/production environment around large metal components and machinery.Ability to pass & maintain NDT & NAVSEA certificationsAbility to lift and move inspection equipment and parts up to 50 lbs as needed.Standing, walking, and bending required during inspections.Ability to work required second-shift hours and overtime as needed.Ability to operate forklifts, cranes and various material handling equipment Fairbanks Morse Defense
