Project Manager - PreK-12 - Hybrid

Overview HED is looking for an experienced Project Manager for our Pre‑K‑12 education practice in San Francisco. Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of post‑graduate experience in the A/E industry and at least 5 years of experience leading multi‑disciplinary teams as an A/E or client‑side Project Manager. The role focuses on DSA‑permitted Pre‑K‑12 projects, with responsibility for risk, resource, schedule, and financial management. The position is full‑time, available to individuals near our Sacramento or San Francisco offices, and offers a competitive salary, excellent benefits, and a flexible hybrid work schedule. Responsibilities Assist the Principal‑in‑Charge with proposal development and negotiation of agreements with owners. Lead and direct multidisciplinary A/E teams across all project phases, coordinating with clients, contractors, consultants, and authorities. Develop, implement, and monitor project plans and strategies. Manage client activities and contracts, including securing additional service fees for work outside the owner agreement. Oversee project schedule, short‑term schedules, tasks, and staff needs to meet profit goals. Establish and monitor discipline‑hour budgets and staffing requirements. Gather required owner data and prepare contract forms for owners and consultants. Schedule, coordinate, and manage design and technical reviews to meet quality policies. Manage the project team during bidding and construction administration phases. Participate in marketing efforts—client maintenance, proposals, and interviews. Assist with post‑construction evaluation and metrics reporting with operations and business leaders. Guide A/E teams on the HED Project Design Process. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of post‑graduate professional experience in the A/E industry. Minimum 5 years of experience as an A/E or client‑side Project Manager responsible for finance and risk. Experience with DSA‑permitted Pre‑K‑12 projects in California. Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Engineering. Professional licensure in California. LEED accreditation preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of professional A/E services. Strong leadership, teamwork, business acumen, communication, and writing skills. Proactive, self‑motivated, enthusiastic, and flexible. Strategic outlook with attention to detail and the ability to influence stakeholders. Physical Requirements Travel to local and national project sites. Access project sites for observation, investigation, and evaluation. Use office equipment for communication and documentation. Have adequate visual acuity.
