Summary This position is part of the Office of Environmental Management - Portsmouth Paducah Project Office, Department of Energy. As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will serve as an expert resource in environmental management/protection/sustainability for DOE, other agencies and private organizations on novel and challenging environmental problems and latest developments. The Office of Environmental Management - Portsmouth Paducah Project Office office works to manage the DOE cleanup efforts at two gaseous diffusion plant sites - Portsmouth (Piketon), Ohio, and Paducah, Kentucky. The PPPO mission is to accomplish Environmental Remediation, Waste Management, Depleted Uranium Hexafluoride (DUF6) Conversion, and Decontamination and Decommissioning at the Sites. Veterans shape the future of energy As a Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:
- Develop policies, standards, and operational guidelines necessary to maintain regulatory compliance across all phases of hazardous and radioactive waste and material management.
- Provide strategic reviews and evaluations of EM compliance policies to resolve highly complex, sensitive, and controversial regulatory and program-level issues.
- Oversee environmental planning to ensure compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) policies and management guidance.
- Safeguard classified information and restricted data while conducting environmental assessments.
- Analyze the viability, maturity, and risk of new environmental technologies and management concepts to solve complex problems and reduce program risks.
- Represent the agency on high-level interagency task forces, collaborating with external regulatory bodies (such as the EPA and NRC) to reconcile conflicting stakeholder viewpoints.
- You must be a United States Citizen.

- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- This position has been designated as Critical-Sensitive, High Risk and requires a security clearance at the Tier 5. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- This position is included in the Department of Energy's Technical Qualification Program (TQP).
- This position requires a valid state issued motor vehicle driver's license (to operate a government vehicle to location sites).
- Directing and overseeing the development of environmental plans, ensuring compliance with policies and guidance.
- Engaging with federal, state, and local government officials or community stakeholders through professional briefings, reports, or presentations.
- Managing complex, multi-facility programs in environmental compliance, waste management, and site restoration.
